The Institut Laue-Langevin (ILL), situated in Grenoble, France, and founded by France, Germany and the United Kingdom, is an international centre for fundamental research. It is Europe's leading facility for neutron science and operates the brightest neutron source in the world, delivering intense neutron beams to 40 unique scientific instruments. Every year, the Institute hosts over 2000 visits by scientists, who come to carry out world-class research in condensed matter physics, crystallography, soft matter, biology, chemistry and fundamental physics. The Projects and Techniques Division, which is responsible for the development of the ILL's instruments and for technical support, currently has a vacancy for:

Duties:
You will be reinforcing the Mechanical Service teams working in the context of the ILL's "long shutdown" project on the maintenance and improvement of the high-flux reactor. Your main duties will be:

- Load handling - Securing of loads - Operation of the overhead crane (15t),
- Driving of lift trucks - Transport operations around the ILL site if required,
- You may be required occasionally to assist with mechanical assembly operations.

For part of the contract, you may be required to work outside normal working hours (8-hour shifts).

Qualifications and experience:
- An RQF qualification (level 1, 2 or 3) in a technical field, with experience in load-handling & slings, operation of overhead cranes and mechanical assembly,
- French qualifications for overhead crane operation (R484 cat. 1) and relevant load-handling vehicle safety certificate (French CACES) 3 and 4 required,
- You must be attentive to safety rules, particularly as regards load handling, compliance with zoning, and manoeuvring in the proximity of other load handlers,
- You must be a methodical and meticulous worker. You enjoy working in a team, can work independently with versatility, and have good inter-personal skills.

Language skills:
As an international research centre we are particularly keen to ensure that we attract applicants from outside France. A good knowledge of French is required. Knowledge of English and German would be an advantage.

Notes:
We are recruiting for two fixed-term posts, with contracts ending on 31 July 2022 (start date expected: 11 October 2021) with a possible contract extension. Accreditation required for work in areas controlled.
Grenoble-based.
