Division of Functional Product Development at the Department of Mechanical Engineering is looking for PhD candidates. The research is expanding and now offers two PhD candidates the chance to take part in research activities. The work at the division aims to improve industrial competitiveness and sustainable product development.
The goal of our research is to develop methods and tools that support design teams in the development of product-service integrated solutions. In general, our research focus on the early phases of development and the support needed for this phase. Specifically, we contribute with simulation support for engineering knowledge and expertise sharing. Our research environment is recognized by a creative attitude, and close industrial and international cooperation. We actively work with development of our own work environment so that it shall attract different competencies. We are certain that an environment where all are working on equal terms will lead to better performance.
As a PhD candidate, you will contribute to the research subject in terms of improving the knowledge about modern development processes and the support for product innovation. Analysis of function, product structure, product support plan and product-service integrated solutions - all from a lifecycle perspective - are the areas in which your competences can contribute. A Knowledge Engineering viewpoint is central to the research subject where computer support play an important role. Partners of the division and the accompanying "Faste Laboratory - Centre for Functional Product Innovation" with related research projects will be your main area for research activities.
