Department of Aquaculture, SLU, ( From January 1st, 2007 an integrated part of the Department of wildlife, fish, and environmental studies) We are involved in basic fish biology research in the areas of ecology, physiology and genetics.We apply new knowledge in fish management programs on both cultured and wild fish.www.vabr.slu.se Umeå Marine Sciences Centre (UMSC) is a centre unit at Umeå University, with research, teaching environmental control and analysis and information related to the marine environment, especially in the Gulf of Bothnia.Around 25 people have their daily work at UMSC and the modern field station in Norrbyn, ca 40 km south of Umeå.For more information see www.umf.umu.se.2 PhD students in ecology with immediate or agreed admission.Global climate change has been predicted to cause increasing precipitation in northern Europe.The inflow of dissolved organic carbon and inorganic nutrients to coastal sea areas will thus increase.It is possible that such changes may cause decreased phytoplankton production, increased bacterial production and decreased fish production in the Baltic Sea.We are looking for two PhD-students who will work within this scientific field.The projects will contribute to the understanding and prediction of climate related changes of the productivity and biodiversity in the sea. The position is available for a four-year period (48 months) of research.To qualify for the position you need a Bachelor university degree, typically with a minimum of 120 ECTS in biology.Proficiency in both written and spoken English is required.The procedure for recruitment for the PhD position is in accordance with the Higher Education Ordinance (Högskoleförordningen kap. 5 and 9).
