3D CAD Technical Engineer (EN-EL-DDO-2023-6-LD)
Geneva, Switzerland
Contract
Company Description
At CERN, the European Organization for Nuclear Research, physicists and engineers are probing the fundamental structure of the universe. Using the world's largest and most complex scientific instruments, they study the basic constituents of matter - fundamental particles that are made to collide together at close to the speed of light. The process gives physicists clues about how particles interact, and provides insights into the fundamental laws of nature. Find out more on http://home.cern.
Job Description
Introduction
The Engineering Department (EN) pushes back the limits of technology so that physicists can carry out their research. Within the Electrical Engineering (EL) group of the EN department, you will join the section of the Design and Documentation Office (DDO), which is responsible for delivering electrical designs for the EL group, as well as the database and documentation management of the continuously evolving transmission and distribution networks. The DDO is also responsible for the 3D Computer Aided Design (CAD) of the EL groups equipment and infrastructure, termed 3D integration. The 3D integration is often challenging due to very tight space constraints in underground areas and the constraints of other services which requires a proactive and collaborative design approach.
Are you an experienced 3D CAD technical engineer, specialized in delivering 3D designs of complex equipment within technical facilities? Then your skills could contribute to the operation, maintenance, consolidation and extension of the complex electrical transmission and distribution network of CERN, dedicated to a unique laboratory hosting some of the world's most complex technical installations. Join CERN's Electrical Engineering team. Take part!
Functions
You will:
- Take on a lead 3D CAD Technical Engineer role to work on complex projects of CERN;
- Create 3D and 2D designs of electrical installations such as substations which include transformers, electrical switchboards, cable ladders and their mechanical supports in CAD software;
- Co-ordinate with EL teams, electrical designers and various infrastructure services to optimise 3D integration designs to compare and evaluate different 3D integration options to obtain the most efficient use of space in CERNs installations;
- Create detailed mechanical models of water-cooled cable terminations and their support structures;
- Create cabling synoptics to determine the amount of cable ladders required and determining their optimal routing;
- Manage a 3D equipment library as well as working with other CERN equipment databases;
- Work closely with electrical designers in the DDO to act as the link between the 3D integration domain and electrical studies;
- Participate in updating and improving quality standards of the group.
Qualifications
Bachelor's degree or equivalent relevant experience in the field of Mechanical or Electrical engineering or a related field.
Experience:
The candidate shall demonstrate experience in:
- A lead 3D CAD design role for large 3d integration design projects;
- The design and integration of mechanical or electrical equipment;
- Management of 3D models collected and centralized from various technical fields (e.g. electrical services, HVAC, transport and volume);
- Creation of 2D for-execution installation drawings from 3D models;
- 3D modelling based on scan data.
Technical competencies:
- Integration of mechanical systems: integration of mechanical and electrical systems using 3D and 2D CAD software (experience in Catia V5 and BricsCAD is an asset);
- Production of 2D drawings and 3D models: for technical infrastructure and equipment;
- Use of office software packages: expert proficiency, especially Excel
- Design and analysis of mechanical structures
Behavioural competencies:
- Solving Problems: assimilating large quantities of information, identifying key issues and formulating conclusions clearly and concisely.
- Managing Self: working well autonomously; taking on activities and tasks without prompting
- Achieving Results: delivering high quality work on time and fulfilling expectations
- Working in Teams: building and maintaining constructive and effective work relationships
- Communicating Effectively: listening actively to others and letting others speak
Language skills:
Being fluent in either English or French and an undertaking to acquire the other language rapidly. Being able to speak both languages would be a benefit.
