EISLAB (Embedded Internet System Lab) solicits applicants to fill 4 Ph.D.student positions. If you hold a masters degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Physics Engineering and are highly motivated you should consider applying.
EISLAB covers the research area of Industrial Electronics and Computer Engineering to develop systems such as wireless sensor networks and integrated development tools to simulate complete systems from sensor all the way to Internet communication with seamless integration. The Ph.D.candidates will join one of the group's research areas: sensors, mixed mode analog design, EIS architecture, or EMC.For further information about EISLAB and its research areas, please visit http://www.ltu.se/eislab and its research areas.
The projects can be described as:
NSS - Smart Sensors, reference number 2008-08
EISLAB work in the field on sensor networks and the focus of this project is on developing smart wireless sensors to be used in the hazardous environment of fire fighting and rescue operation.Sensors should be small so that they don't prevent firefighters to perform their duties and have a low enough power consumption for operating for extensive periods of time.Other aspects will be to equip houses with sensors to aid firefighters in their work, as well as to function in training exercises.
Candidates should have good skills in electronics, low-level programming, and computer communication.

I2 - Intelligenta Inlandsvägen (The intelligent road), reference number 2009-08
This is a sub-project to conduct research and develop strategies for low power sensor systems in harsh environment. These sensor systems will measure meteorological parameters such as temperature, humidity, barometric pressure or wind velocity and direction. The sensor systems find themselves in an architecture for reactive systems that are both fixed and mobile and yet connected to the Internet.Physically, there is the aspect of protective packaging while the software will have to deal with filtering, compression and action decision.

Design tool integration, reference number 2010-08
During the designed and development of embedded systems, simulations and modeling tools are used. They include SPICE, Simulink, Timber among others. The purpose of the project is not only to integrate the tools with each other but to be able to switch between them during the different phases of the system design.

Global Satellite Navigation System (GNSS) Antenna Array Technology, reference number 2011-08
Multipath and interference are significant error sources for GNSS multiple frequency systems. Both of these aspects can be mitigated successfully using antenna array technology where the antenna is designed to focus a beam on the satellites as they transition through the sky.The project will implement a multiple element antenna array, focusing on achieving gain and phase adjustments to achieve the desired pointing capabilities. The methods will involve the use of RF ASICs for the front end as well as gain/phase adjustments in the digital domain.
