Technical chemistry (TC) is one of the laboratories within the Department of Chemistry.Technical chemistry carries out research and post-gradual researcher education within the areas of sustainable development, catalysis (especially heterogeneous metal and enzymatic catalysis), ionic liquids, reaction kinetics, modeling of chemical reactors and biorefinery (particularly forest biorefinery) technologies for lignocellulose. We are part of the new chemistry platform at the Umeå University and can provide education within the various aspects around green chemistry and sustainable development for the students. To this new group we now search one Ph.D.student with the focus on future, bio-based fuels and chemicals as well as development of the processes within the biorefineriers.Processum Biorefinery Initiative is host for the project called ?The biorefinery of the future?which were one of the winners in a national competition held by Vinnova, The Swedish Governmental Agency for Innovation Systems. On site we have a deep knowledge and long tradition in processing forest raw material. With Domsjö Biorefinery and M-real Husum mill together, some 4,5 million m3 of wood are annually processed in the site. This implies large volumes of wood components (cellulose, hemicellulose, lignin and extractives) are accessible through the different process streams.Additionally, the Processum cluster is composed not only of forest-based producers (Domsjö Biorefinery, Sekab, Akzo Nobel, M-real, SCA), but also consultancy and engineering companies (Eurocon and Metso), an R&D company (MoRe Research), wood suppliers (Sveaskog, Holmen Skog), energy producers (Övik Energi and Umeå Energi) and a waste management company (Ragn Sells). There is a standing tradition of cooperation among the companies and the wide composition of industries within the cluster is able handle all aspects of biorefining.Processum is the cluster company and we work primarily with R&D. We look forward to receiving your application!
