Academic Coordinator 4-6

Job Responsibilities

The Academic Coordinator should be seen by the staff team as being an exemplary educator, organiser and motivator. They work closely with the Principal/Assistant Principal to ensure high academic standards across all subjects balancing both short and long term goals. They support & guide teachers wherever possible and work to maximise student achievement in everything they do. As a member of the group of Academic Coordinators they support each other and work to create and develop academic initiatives to constantly raise the standards of education across the organisation.

Responsibilities towards:

Students:

- Monitor the correct use of test/project scheduling and homework scheduling
- Meet Year 6 study monitors weekly to oversee student workloads and stress
- Organise and oversee the weekly availability of extra help in every subject (Tutorial)

Staff:

- Monitor the proper and regular use of Academic Notices, ensuring follow-up and closure
- Work with the Special Educator and student care as appropriate (such as monitoring key students)
- Ensure that all teachers are aware of the procedures and policies relating to academic performance; including meeting Skolverket’s requirements such as departments meeting the requirements of the National Curriculum
- Regularly communicate with staff about key academic issues/progress. Share weekly Heads of Department meetings. Support staff with ensuring that the classroom atmosphere is conclusive to learning.
- Assist with preparation for an organisation of the National Tests
- Assist all subjects in general
- Support teachers with their continued professional development – including lesson observations and monitoring the impact of the Classroom management in the classroom (this does not include observations relating to salary setting)

Management and planning:

- Assist the Principal in ensuring that the quality of teaching, learning, planning, and assessment are of the highest quality.
- Maintain statistical records pertaining to the school’s academic performance; monitor the school’s performance relative to the academic goals that are set locally and within IES.
- Regularly meet with the school’s management team to monitor and discuss the school’s current academic situation/development
- Meet other Academic Coordinators and work closely with with them on the continued academic development of the organisation as a whole
- Liaise with the other Academic coordinator and the Assistant Principal for Academics wherever appropriate
- In addition to the above, some Academic Coordinators will assume responsibility for the Student Information System, SchoolSoft

Who are you?

You are a visible role model with a strong presence in the daily life of the school. You have the ability to engage and inspire both students and staff. You are flexible and adaptable to change, whilst focusing on outcomes. You have teaching qualifications, leadership experience and a strong understanding of the IES vision.

-You should have strong knowledge of state and municipal policy documents including the Swedish School Law and the Swedish curriculum (LGR11).

-As you will have a large role in the school’s Systematic Quality Work, you should have a genuine interest in educational development and its organization as well as implementation.

-You must also be a proven leader with great competence in academics, supporting, and developing staff within the school. 

-You should be an excellent communicator who shows a genuine care and interest in collaborating with, and coaching staff of different experiential and cultural backgrounds.

-To be accepted for the position you will need relevant academic education. The ability to communicate in both Swedish and English is of high importance. 

In addition to being an able leader you also need to be a flexible team player dealing with tasks that are challenging but at the same time rewarding. You should pride yourself on being a visible and approachable leader who works hard to be an active and positive participant in the school community.
