MAX IV is a Swedish national large-scale research laboratory hosted by Lund University. It provides scientists from Sweden as well as internationally, with state-of-the-art instrumentation for research in areas such as engineering, physics, structural biology, chemistry and nanotechnology. Fully developed it will receive more than 2 000 scientists annually, conducting ground-breaking experiments in materials and life sciences using the brilliant X-ray light.
Your team
The Accelerator Operations Group works at the front-line of the MAX-IV facility, controlling and optimising the electron beam in each of our three world-class accelerators.

MAX IV are looking for an Accelerator Operator-Assistant who will…
...work in the Accelerator Control Room to keep the electron beam properties within the desired envelope.
You will work with experts in many different technical fields to get the desired performance out of the accelerators.
Note that this position consists entirely of shift work. On-call responsibilities may apply in the future.
Your main work tasks will be
- Work in the control room to maintain the necessary beam conditions
- Document issues as they arise, and troubleshoot system failures
- Handover to incoming operators on shift changes
- Radiation safety tasks when necessary
- Work on various machine development, automation, and documentation tasks
To be successful in this role you need to have the following qualifications
- You perform well as a shift worker, and are happy to work during evenings, nights, as well as during weekends.
- You have a Bachelors degree or equivalent in physics or engineering, and/or significant experience in the operation of large, complex, scientific facilities.
- You have significant programming skills and/or experience in relevant technical areas.
Below are seen as merits
- Experience of working in an accelerator facility is a significant advantage.
- Knowledge of Python and/or Matlab is advantageous.
- Experience in working with modern control systems is a major plus.
As a person you have strong communications skills, and are comfortable solving problems within a team.
You consider yourself to be a careful and efficient problem solver, naturally balancing the risks and rewards of various solutions to find the best way forward.
