The Machine Directorate at the European Spallation Source (ESS) in Lund, Sweden, invites applications for an Accelerator Physicist.

Description of directorate/division
The accelerator Division is responsible for the design, construction, commissioning and operation of the ESS accelerator. The pulsed superconducting linac, to be built in Lund, will produce a 5 MW average power beam, driving the world´s most powerful neutron source. The Beam Physics Group is responsible for the study of the dynamics of the protons in the linac, development of the high level applications for the control room and leading the commissioning of the ESS linac.

Description of main responsibilities


• Collaborate in the beam physics studies of the ESS linac.

• Development of high level applications to be used during commissioning and operation of the ESS linac.

• Participate in the commissioning of the ESS linac.

Technical competencies:
PhD or equivalent in physics, mathematics or a related field, with a good understanding of particle accelerators physics, with experience in design, commissioning or operation of particle accelerators. 

Significant experience in the following areas is an advantage: 



• Programming using Java, Python, C/C++

• Developing of GUIs

• Modeling of proton linacs

Experience of working in an international environment is essential and your English skills are excellent, both oral and written.

You also have a demonstrated ability to plan and organize your work to meet cost, schedule and performance requirements.

The position is permanent. Your work place will be situated in Lund, Sweden.
