The function of Road Operation is to ensure that all of our transports, whether they may be via part load, full load, milk run, LDJIS/JIT are executed in a manner to support of key stakeholders across EMEA. This is a 60 second world, every minute a car is built in our European plants The function is also responsible to ensure our carriers are managed on a weekly basis in terms of their performance and in collaboration with our Carrier Management team on a monthly basis.
Abou the position
You are responsible to secure that your team execute our transports to run on time, however we live in turbulent time so where deviations occur they are reported and mitigated and to ensure the most cost and environmentally efficient solution. You will work cross functionally to ensure your valuable knowledge is factored into all future solutions of which you are expected to be a key stakeholder in developing and implementing.
You will lead a highly skilled team with many different competencies and with a high level of energy to work with continuous improvement. We have a great team spirit where everyone contributes and we encourage feedback. The team has a good mix of backgrounds, genders and experience which creates an inclusive environment.
The work location for the position is in Gothenburg with travel primarily within Europe. Travel is envisaged in the region of 10-20% of the working time, however you will largely decide your own schedule based upon your business area needs.
What you´ll do
Reporting to Head of Inbound Operations & Optimization EMEA. You will own your business area and ensure that you create a positive working environment with a high performing team that has a huge influence on both our operational performance and ultimately financial performance.
• Follow up on KPI targets for carriers and develop measures to ensure fulfillment of contractual deliverables where needed
• Lead monthly internal as well as regular supplier performance review meetings
• Regularly interact with stakeholders (internal customers) within Volvo Cars
• Design and implement processes to secure efficiency in daily operations
• As part of Inbound EMEA Management Team contribute to the development organization
• Take responsibility for Inbound Performance meetings with assigned plants.
• Drive the digitalization journey for your area
• Other tasks as assigned as part of Inbound EMEA Management team.
Do you fit the profile?
We are looking to bring in a leader with strong industry knowledge, the ability to analyze data presented and turn that into sound recommendations and first class leadership skills.
A Master degree in a relevant subject (Supply Chain or Logistics) is preferred, however leadership experience of at least 3yrs as either a manager or team leader with HR responsibility is a requirement. You have a proven track record of building high performing teams. You must have first class business level English skills, other languages are not essential, however are considered a bonus.
You must have strong Road transport experience either working in-house at an OEM or Tier supplier or alternatively at a Freight Forwarder or Logistics Company.
As a person you have excellent people management as well as communication skills, both verbal and written. We believe you have experience of negotiating rates as well as good knowledge of Customs procedures and Inco-terms.
