The Department of Clinical Sciences is part of the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine and Animal Science at the Swedish University of Agricultural Sciences (SLU). The department is responsible for education, research and postgraduate training within the subjects anaesthesiology, diagnostic imaging, epidemiology, laboratory animal medicine, surgery, clinical pathology, medicine and reproduction. These subjects cover all animal species.
Ruminant medicine includes diagnostics, medical and surgical treatment, as well as prophylaxis in ruminants (mostly cattle, sheep and goat), at the individual and herd level.
The dept. of Clinical Sciences invites applications from veterinarians who would like to participate in the clinical work and educational activities in the SLU Ruminant Clinic.
Tasks
The main work tasks are education of veterinary students in ruminant medicine and contribution to clinical activities. The educational activites are theoretical and practical-clinical. Both medical and surgical treatments, as well as preventive animal health care are included. The theoretical teaching includes seminars and rounds. The clinical and educational activities takes place partly in the department's own premises with SLU’s animals and referred cases, partly in the cattle herd at Lövsta research center and in other herds.
You will participate in the coordination of the communication with referring veterinarians and farmers and the organisation of students, interns, residents, as well as in research activities within the clinic. Your role as coordinator and teacher will contribute to efficient clinical education, research of international standard and excellent service to veterinarians, farmers and organisations. Supervision of interns and residents in the clinic and in the field is included. Work after office hours and on weekends occurs.
Qualifications
You have a veterinary degree and are eligible to practice veterinary medicine in Sweden. Documented clinical experience within ruminant medicine and surgery, at individual and herd level, is required.
International or national specialist degree within the subject, pedagogic skills and experience within practical and clinical education is a merit.
Personal qualities, such as a positive approach, organisational skills, and abilities to communicate and collaborate are important. Personal skills are therefore an important part of the evaluation.
Speaking Swedish is highly desirable as well having a good ability to speak and write English. European drivers’ license, minimum type B, is also required.
