Who are we?
Volvo Cars is a company on a mission; to bring traditional car manufacturing into a connected, sustainable and smart future.
Since 1927, we have been a brand known for our commitment to safety, creating innovative cars that make life less complicated for our consumers. In 2010, we decided to transform our business, resulting in a totally new generation of cars and technologies, as well as steady growth and record sales. Today, we’re expanding our global footprint in Europe, China and the US, and we’re on the lookout for new talent.
We are constantly pushing our own skills and abilities to drive change in the automobile industry like never before. We are looking for innovative, committed people to join us in this endeavour and create safe, sustainable and connected cars. We believe in the power of people and will challenge and support you to reach your full potential. Join us and be part of Volvo Cars’ journey into the future.
What’s in it for you?
We are now looking for a Aeroacoustics engineer to join the Propulsion and Climate Attributes group at Volvo Cars Headquarters in Gothenburg, Sweden.
Do you want to contribute to Volvo Cars vision to provide “Freedom to move in a Personal, Sustainable & Safe way”? Do you have the know-how and the drive to strengthen the team focusing on sound and vibrations related to the propulsion and climate systems of our vehicles? Then the role as Aeroacoustics Engineer within the Propulsion and Climate Attributes group is the place for you to prosper. As part of the Personal Driving Experience Centre, we are responsible for the Noise Vibration and Harshness (NVH) integration of the electrical propulsion system and the climate system. We are responsible for the sound and vibration development of bushings, stiffness of structures, fans, blowers, HVAC air distribution and related functional calibration. Together we ensure that we provide a high acoustic quality experience of these systems in the vehicle together with the product development teams.
Here, you will get the chance to be involved in all project phases, from Advanced Engineering to vehicle production start, and with field and quality issues, contributing with analysis and guidelines to improve our attributes in our cars. We can offer state-of-the-art equipment and test facilities and the opportunity to build an extensive network with other internal design areas, suppliers, and our development centre in Shanghai.
What you’ll do
You will be a part of a scrum team to strengthen the deliverables and development of the next generation of climate and cooling systems in terms of sound quality. Your main responsibility will be to perform aeroacoustics simulations of different systems in-vehicle such as fans, blowers, HVAC air distribution, component cooling and many others. You will propose improvements and drive necessary change together with involved design areas.
You will be participating in car program teams where you support in the requirement setting at systems level, communicate analysis results and guide the design work from a sound and vibration perspective. You will participate in the development of improved or new methods and simulation capability as well as in implementations of new software / hardware. Some of your responsibilities will be to lead assignments, of course depending on your experience and knowledge, and participate in the development of improved or new methods and guidelines.
You and your skills
We see that you have an MSc or PhD in mechanical engineering, technical acoustics, engineering physics or similar and that you have a solid understanding and passion for acoustics, aeroacoustics and aerodynamics.
You have proven experience with CFD simulations, aeroacoustic simulations and related signal processing. You need to be comfortable using STAR CCM+, Matlab/Python and MS Office. Knowledge of Simulia Powerflow, HEAD Artemis, Siemens Simcenter Testlab and Müller-BBM PAK systems is meritorious. We believe that knowledge and ability in testing and validation of your simulations is key to success.
We believe that personality is key, and for this role we need an outspoken and brave person willing to drive change. You are known for your great analytical capability, your customer focus and result orientation. You are also a true team-player with a sense of accountability, comfortable taking own initiatives when needed.
