Do you have a PhD in plant biology and can´t get enough of the universe of algae cultivation? Do you have experience from the pharma, supplements or food production? In the early 1990s, AstaReal became the first company in the world to commercially produce natural astaxanthin from microalgae. Aiming to further strengthen the position as market leader, AstaReal is now looking for a passionate and resourceful specialist in algae cultivation to their site in Gustavsberg outside Stockholm.
About the role
As our specialist in algae cultivation, you will monitor and seek to optimize the entire cultivation and production process. You will make sure the algae thrive and grow in a process that is safe and efficient. Initially you will focus on optimizing growing condition but, in due time, you will also be engaged in process development. You will be part of the R&D-team consisting of a Scientific Affairs Manager, a Lab and R&D Manager a, an Algae Specialist (this role), and a Lab-technician, led by the Head of R&D. You will be in daily contact with your colleagues in production, maintenance, and quality. You will also collaborate internationally with the headquarters in Japan and sister company in the USA, all belonging to the AstaReal group. The position is located at the AstaReal site in Gustavsberg, approximately 20 minutes due west of Stockholm city. You will report to Head of R&D, Pernilla Berg.
Areas of responsibility
o Fully responsible for the cultivation laboratory at the production site
o Responsible for the cultures in production from lab to full scale production
o Key decisions related to the microalgae cultures in production
o Continuous optimization of the algae cultivation
o Collaboration with production team and other stakeholders
o Production process development
Competencies and experiences
We believe you have a PhD in plant biology or similar academic background and a keen interest in- and knowledge about cultivation of microalgae. This might be your first assignment outside the academic world. Experience from the pharma, supplements or food processing industry is meritorious.
In a sense you will be working in a small company but with lots of international influences and opportunities.
