Amanuens in the project "NLP to Ensure the Consistency of Safety Cases"

Amanuens in the project "NLP to Ensure the Consistency of Safety Cases"

Arbetsbeskrivning

Information about the project
The positions will give the successful candidates the chance to actively contribute to a cutting-edge research project and to get insights into how research is conducted at Chalmers Technical University and the University of Gothenburg. At the same time, the positions offer the opportunity to learn more about software engineering for safety-critical systems and about natural language processing, both topics in high demand at the local industry in Gothenburg and beyond.

The positions will support the research project "NLP to Ensure the Consistency of Safety Cases" which investigates how natural-language processing can support engineers in identifying when the terminology used in a safety case diverges from the terminology of the rest of the development artifacts such as requirements, design documents, and code. The project is run by Jan-Philipp Steghöfer in the Software Engineering Division and Peter Ljunglöf in the Functional Programming Division. The successful candidates will work closely with these two principal investigators.

Job description
The successful candidates will be working with a dataset provided by the University of Notre Dame in South Bend, Indiana. Their main responsibility will be to manually annotate the dataset to identify any existing inconsistencies between the safety cases and the requirements, and/or manually introducing such inconsistencies. This will prepare future work on applying NLP approaches to the problem. The final dataset will be published for inclusion in a NLP evaluation conference, such as SemEval (https://semeval.github.io). The successful candidates will have the opportunity to be co-authors of that publication.

Contract terms
Temporary employment four months. The positions are 20% of a full-time equivalent

Your qualifications
The positions require excellent command of the English language, fundamental understanding of software development process and the involved artifacts, ability to structure own work as well as to work independently towards a goal. Experience in natural language processing, with annotation tasks, and with data preparation for NLP tasks are advantageous.
