Who are we?
Volvo Cars is a company on a mission; to bring traditional car manufacturing into a connected, sustainable and smart future.
Since 1927, we have been a brand known for our commitment to safety, creating innovative cars that make life less complicated for our consumers. In 2010, we decided to transform our business, resulting in a totally new generation of cars and technologies, as well as steady growth and record sales. Today, we’re expanding our global footprint in Europe, China and the US, and we’re on the lookout for new talent.
We are constantly pushing our own skills and abilities to drive change in the automobile industry like never before. We are looking for innovative, committed people to join us in this endeavour and create safe, sustainable and connected cars. We believe in the power of people and will challenge and support you to reach your full potential. Join us and be part of Volvo Cars’ journey into the future.
What we offer
For autonomous drive the availability of radars and sensors are a necessity, but there are a lot of factors to consider when developing a system that´s always available. At our team you will use your knowledge in fluid dynamics to support in finding the most optimal placement for equipment used in safety systems and autonomous drive functions.
You will be part of an agile team working with all vehicle programs and participate in all development phases.
What you’ll do
As a part of the Strategy and Implementation team, you will evaluate the functionality of our future cars in harsh weather and extreme environmental conditions such as rain, snow and dust. You will work with all our vehicle programs and within all development phases.
We expect you to work in close collaboration with our CFD team, but your main area of responsibility will be within physical testing and development of experimental methods and design improvements.
To be able to verify the design you will perform physical testing in the wind tunnels, on road expeditions and at proving grounds. Your focus areas will be to look at the effects of exterior contamination to the visibility of the driver as well as for the availability of the safety systems. Your task is to find ways of decreasing these effects by creating verification methods, run your verification with your proposed improvements and after analysing your verification results, share your findings with other teams and departments, giving valuable information on system and design changes that you see would improve the customer experience.
You and your skills
You have a genuine car interest and experience from working with physical testing. To have performed tests in a wind tunnel is a valued experience and having drivers licence B is a requirement. You have a university degree in Engineering or equivalent working experience and your English is fluent (written and spoken).
To be a member of a team is your preferred way of working and you don’t hesitate to ask your colleagues for help and support when needed. You have experience of fluid mechanics and multiphase flows either using CFD simulations or experiments and it is meritorious to have used STARCCM+.
