Who are we?
Volvo Cars is a company on a mission; to bring traditional car manufacturing into a connected, sustainable and smart future.
Since 1927, we have been a brand known for our commitment to safety, creating innovative cars that make life less complicated for our consumers. In 2010, we decided to transform our business, resulting in a totally new generation of cars and technologies, as well as steady growth and record sales. Today, we’re expanding our global footprint in Europe, China and the US, and we’re on the lookout for new talent.
We are constantly pushing our own skills and abilities to drive change in the automobile industry like never before. We are looking for innovative, committed people to join us in this endeavour and create safe, sustainable and connected cars. We believe in the power of people and will challenge and support you to reach your full potential. Join us and be part of Volvo Cars’ journey into the future.
What’s in it for you?
We are now looking for an experienced Analysis Engineer within Driver Modeling and Continuous Integration (CI) Chain development to join our Safety Centre at Volvo Cars Headquarters in Gothenburg, Sweden.
At Volvo Cars Safety Centre, 170 highly skilled professionals strive every day to make the world a safer place for car drivers and everyone else on the road. We are proud of our track record including numerous world's firsts, all based on real world research and knowledge: exemplified by the safety belt (1959), SIPS (1991), WHIPS (1998), City Safety (2008), Pedestrian Detection with Full Auto brake (2010), and Run off Road protection (2015).
The future challenges and opportunities are exciting and through advanced technology and research we are developing safety with regard to Injury Prevention, Collision Avoidance (ADAS) and Autonomous Drive (AD). A key part of what we do at Safety Centre is to investigate potential safety solutions to current and future traffic safety problems. In these areas Volvo Cars is making extensive use of computer simulation to accelerate the pace and quality of the development.
What you’ll do
In this position you have a large responsibility for our efforts in securing that our virtual driver models can be integrated and run in all the simulation environments we use for ADAS and AD analysis.
On a daily basis, you work directly with how to implement our virtual driver models in Volvo Cars simulation environments and help with performing analysis work that leverage these models to develop requirements and guidelines for next generations of ADAS/AD-systems. This means that you are a main contributor in Volvo Cars development of methods, processes and tools where dependencies on virtual driver models exist.
You also participate in the actual development of our virtual driver models so that you are well prepared to handle the associated implementation requirements when deploying the models on various Volvo Cars’ simulation platforms. The latter part will require that you build an extensive inter-company network since both the simulation environments and many of the models are shared with other departments. Thus, having a mindset where you enjoy cooperation and finding synergies with other teams is key.
Finally, you are expected to help less experienced CAE engineers grow in this area, to increase the level of empowerment of the agile teams.
You and your skills
We believe you have a master’s level degree within a relevant field. You also have experience of ADAS and AD simulations and assessments within automotive safety, preferably including driver model-based simulations and assessments, and functional development and validation/verification (Continuous Integration and/or physical testing). You are familiar with tools such as Matlab, Simulink, Python, Jenkins, PreScan, CarMaker or similar. In addition you need fluent English skills, both written and spoken.
On a personal level, you first and foremost share our genuine interest in traffic safety. You have good analytic abilities and a talent for creating synthesis-based insights. Also, you have the pedagogical skill and engagement needed to present and explain these insights to an audience who might not know your area very well, and doing it in such a way that they can easily apply what you have learned within their own areas of expertise within e.g. ADAS simulation or safety assessment. You have a collaborative mindset and believe that teamwork is a stronger driver of results than solo acts. You are also customer focused, in the sense that what we do at Volvo Cars Safety Centre in the end is intended to create a safer and better product and therefore has to support product development in the best way possible. Naturally, an interest in developing the virtual driver models themselves is also expected.
