Arbetsbeskrivning

Who are we?
Volvo Cars is a company on a mission; to bring traditional car manufacturing into a connected, sustainable and smart future.
Since 1927, we have been a brand known for our commitment to safety, creating innovative cars that make life less complicated for our consumers. In 2010, we decided to transform our business, resulting in a totally new generation of cars and technologies, as well as steady growth and record sales. Today, we’re expanding our global footprint in Europe, China and the US, and we’re on the lookout for new talent.
We are constantly pushing our own skills and abilities to drive change in the automobile industry like never before. We are looking for innovative, committed people to join us in this endeavour and create safe, sustainable and connected cars. We believe in the power of people and will challenge and support you to reach your full potential. Join us and be part of Volvo Cars’ journey into the future.

What’s in it for you?
We are now looking for an Active Safety Analysis Engineer (Crash Avoidance Principles and Guidelines) with a genuine interest in traffic and vehicle safety to join our Safety Centre at Volvo Cars Headquarters in Gothenburg, Sweden.

At Volvo Cars Safety Centre, 190 highly skilled professionals strive every day to make the world a safer place for car drivers and everyone else on the road. We are proud of our track record including numerous world's firsts, all based on real world research and knowledge: exemplified by the safety belt (1959), SIPS (1991), WHIPS (1998), City Safety (2008), Pedestrian Detection with Full Auto brake (2010), and Run off Road protection (2015).

The future challenges and opportunities are exciting and through advanced technology and research we are developing safety with regard to injury prevention and collision avoidance, in addition to areas like Autonomous Drive, HMI, emotional safety and driver behavior - all based on real life situations.

The groups working with collision avoidance analysis are analyzing accident field data from different international real-world data sources including Volvo Cars' own Traffic Accident and Naturalistic Driving databases. They create methods for verification and validation of the safety performance of our cars with active safety (ADAS) and Autonomous Drive (AD) functions. The knowledge created is used to develop strategies, requirements, guidelines for crash avoidance principles used to develop future Volvo passenger cars.

What you’ll do
The Analysis Engineer - Crash Avoidance Principles and Guidelines (Active Safety CAE) - will focus on active safety systems and functions. A key element will be to reconstruct and run simulations of real accidents based on information from field data (e.g. pre-crash data), empirical analysis of mechanisms to build knowledge used to develop even safer vehicles. Virtual development, testing, and verification of active safety and automated driving systems on real crash and pre-crash data are essential to increase precision in development, to decrease lead time in projects and to reach Volvo Cars’ Safety Vision; No one should be severely injured or die in a new Volvo vehicle. To get a detailed understanding of the pre-crash phase is essential because active safety and automated driving systems act to avoid crashes within this phase.

Daily tasks and responsibilities:
•    Develop and maintain our simulation environment which includes models of the vehicle, Active Safety functions and the driver’s behavior so that it can be used to run simulations for evaluation, verification and tuning of active safety systems
•    Perform experimental and virtual simulations of real-world scenarios with respect to crash avoidance and crash mitigation performance and you will analyze the results
•    Work with method development and the virtual simulations within our research projects.
•    Participate in method development and requirement setting. Regular contact with engineers from the product development departments

You and your skills
We believe you have a master’s level degree in Automotive Engineering, Signal and systems, Control & Mechatronics, Applied Mechanics or similar. You also need experience of Python and C++, Vehicle Dynamics, multibody mechanics, statistical analysis and optimization, control algorithm development and mechatronics, as well as MBSE/CAE-tools such as PreScan, CarMaker, Simulink, Matlab etc. Furthermore, you need to be fluent in English (written and spoken) and hold a Swedish driving license (B).

On a personal level, you are a problem solver with great analytical skills and a talent to do syntheses from a holistic view. You always keep a customer focus, a positive attitude, and a high motivation. You have an inner drive and are truly innovative. Furthermore, you are well organized but still flexible. You are a reliable team player who enjoys collaboration and possess excellent communication skills. Finally, you share our genuine interest in traffic and vehicle safety.
