We are constantly pushing our own skills and abilities to drive change in the automobile industry like never before. We are looking for innovative, committed people to join us in this endeavour and create safe, sustainable and connected cars. We believe in the power of people and will challenge and support you to reach your full potential. Join us and be part of Volvo Cars’ journey into the future.

What do we offer?
The Solidity team is a part of the Personal Centre within Research & Development at Volvo Cars Headquarters in Gothenburg. The Personal Centre supports the strategic direction of “Freedom to move in a Personal, Sustainable & Safe way”. We organise competence in attributes such as vehicle dynamics, brake attributes, performance & drivability, road noise, wind noise, solidity, operational sound quality, audio & ANC performance, interactive sound design and trimmed body acoustics & dynamics. In close collaboration with the design and release teams we take responsibility for the personal experience for our end users. The Solidity team is responsible for Squeak, Rattle and Solid Feeling and you will have a unique opportunity to shape the future of the area together with your colleagues.

What you’ll do
As an Analysis Engineer within the Solidity team, you will be participating in car programs where you support in the requirement setting at systems level, give engineering judgements, perform tests, communicate analysis results, and guide the design work from the solidity attribute perspective. You will participate in the development of improved or new methods and measurement capabilities, as well as in implementations of new software / hardware for analysis of squeak, rattle and solid feeling.

Your main responsibility will be to work with the design and release ARTs to guide their work. Together with your CAE colleagues you will need to deliver design prerequisites and engineering judgements during early project phases. You will develop and perform, both static and dynamic analysis of different body, exterior and interior systems, using your ears, rigs and measuring equipment. During the builds of prototype cars, you will need to travel to the various factories to support manufacturing, to identify squeaks, rattles and lack of solid feeling. When issues are identified you would work with the design and release teams to find immediate fixes whilst permeant solutions are developed. The lessons learnt from the issues that you find, will need to be fed back into the design loop to prevent reoccurrence in the next project. As a person that represents the customer, you will spend many hours driving our cars on expeditions in different conditions, climates, and countries.

Please note that this position can involve extended periods of travel each year to support builds in our factories around the world. Depending on the release of new car plan, travel can vary from 14 to 60 days a year.

Do you fit the profile?
We expect that you have an B.Eng. in mechanical engineering, engineering physics or similar. You will have solid analytical/problem solving skills with capability to identify solutions to unusual and complex problems. You will enjoy finding ways to use technology to help you identify potential and actual squeaks, rattles and lack of solid feeling. You will need to have an understanding and capacity to effectively operate in all areas of the plant production process.

If you have experience working in Agile teams and using Atlassian JIRA software, you will have an advantage when joining this agile team. Knowledge of HEAD Artemis Suite, or Siemens Teamcenter, or X-FMEA software would be beneficial. Any experience with CAE simulations or physical system testing or product development work would also be a big advantage.

Since you will be driving our cars a lot, it will be necessary for you to have a valid Swedish driver’s license.

On a personal level, you have a true passion for locating and eliminating squeaks and rattles in your car and a genuine interest for driving development to eradicate these annoying sounds. You will enjoy working in a cross functional team but are also able to work alone. You enjoy working in a structured way and you have good communication skills in English.
