Arbetsbeskrivning
At AstraZeneca we turn ideas into life changing medicines and strive to continuously meet the unmet needs of patients worldwide. Working here means being entrepreneurial, thinking big, and working together to make the impossible a reality. If you are swift to action, confident to lead, willing to collaborate, and curious about what science can do, then you're our kind of person.
Pharmaceutical Sciences at AstraZeneca delivers the therapies of the future through scientific leadership in drug delivery, design of synthetic routes, and manufacturing of Active Pharmaceutical Ingredients (API) and drug products. Our portfolio of projects spans traditional small molecules, peptides, oligonucleotides to RNA based therapeutics across AstraZeneca's therapy areas. Advanced Drug Delivery (ADD) resides within Pharmaceutical Sciences with a mission to provide novel products to AstraZeneca's clinical pipeline.
We are now recruiting a talented and motivated Senior Scientist to join our New Modality Preformulation team within the Advanced Drug Delivery (ADD) function in Gothenburg, Sweden.
What You'll do
As a Senior Scientist you will support drug projects from an analytical perspective in the discovery phase of the drug development process; from target identification to candidate drug nomination. You will focus on advanced analytical characterization of biomolecules such as peptides, oligonucleotides, mRNA and other molecules of high complexity. The role covers development of analytical methods, initial stability assessments as well as exploratory scientific initiatives. You will lead drug projects within your own function in the preclinical phase from an analytical, and biophysical characterization perspective. Additionally, you will serve as a member of cross-functional drug development project teams, representing your function and scientific area. You will work in close collaboration with formulation scientists, analytical chemists as well as biopharmaceutics experts in Gothenburg, Sweden but also with colleagues in Cambridge, UK and Waltham, US. Profound knowledge of the discovery and development phase as well as awareness of clinical drug development are central for being successful this role.
Essential for the role
* MSc degree in a relevant scientific discipline (e.g., Analytical Chemistry, Biochemistry or
* Biotechnology).
* In-depth knowledge of analytical methodologies for oligonucleotides/RNA and peptide/protein characterization, with primary focus on the liquid chromatography aspects.
* Experience of biophysical/chemical characterization techniques for biomolecules in pharmaceutical development for parenteral and oral administration routes.
* Ability to communicate in English both orally and in writing.
Desirable for the role
* Ph.D degree in relevant scientific discipline or 5+ years of industrial experience of analytical work with nucleotides/RNA/biomolecules in the drug development phase.
* Experience of different formulation/delivery systems that may require different sample preparation techniques.
* Previous experience in characterization of complex drug products in biorelevant media/environment.
* An interest in exploratory analytical work related to complex molecules, delivery systems and new technologies with aim to publish and present scientific results and conclusions
* Profound knowledge of the discovery and development phase and awareness of clinical drug development.
