Android (AOSP) Development
Competition is no longer limited to traditional automotive players, with innovative and fast-moving tech companies joining the race. At Volvo Cars, our vision and strategy are to maximize the attractiveness of owning and using a Volvo, ensuring all cars are connected and provide a continuously enhanced experience for both new and existing models.
Purpose
We are looking for experienced software developers passionate about creating the next generation of our infotainment system based on Google’s Android Automotive OS. This is an opportunity to join a forward-thinking company and contribute meaningfully to advanced connectivity and infotainment experiences.
Who We Are
Join an agile, collaborative team with a warm atmosphere and a speak-up culture, where everyone can be themselves. We prioritize teamwork over individual success and are led by an empathetic management team dedicated to building empowered teams and developing each individual to reach their highest potential. Our office in Lindholmen, the tech heart of Gothenburg, offers an inspiring workspace with stunning river views.
Who You Are
You are driven by a desire to create the best solutions to make life easier for customers, with strong communication skills that allow you to collaborate effectively with team members, partners, and stakeholders. Adaptable and proactive, you look for ways to improve processes and outcomes, and you value integrity, innovation, and excellence. Above all, you’re a team player who is excited about contributing to Volvo’s forward-thinking approach.
What You'll Do
As an Android Application Developer, you will focus on software development for the infotainment system’s user-facing features. You’ll work closely with partners like Google, UX designers, and development teams to create a seamless, end-to-end solution. You’ll be involved in the entire software development lifecycle, including design, architecture, documentation, development, verification, and validation.
As an Embedded Android (AOSP) Developer, your focus will be on software development within the native layers of the Android Car stack. You’ll collaborate with Google, internal development teams, and stakeholders to ensure an integrated, high-quality solution. You will participate in all stages of the software development lifecycle, contributing to the architecture and continuous evolution of our Android Automotive OS.
Knowledge and Experience
We are looking for candidates with a degree in Software Engineering or at least five years of relevant experience. For both roles, expertise in version control tools, such as Git, is required.
For the Android Application Developer:
* You have hands-on experience in Android application development (Java/Kotlin), including experience with AOSP and the AOSP build system.
* You are familiar with modern app architectural patterns (MVP, MVVM, clean architecture), Android testing frameworks (JUnit, Espresso, Mockito), and Python scripting.
For the Embedded Android (AOSP) Developer:
* You have experience with embedded Android development (Java, C++), Python, and shell scripting.
* You are comfortable working with native Android layers and automotive infotainment projects.
It is advantageous for both roles if you have previous experience in automotive infotainment projects and hold a Swedish B driver’s license.
