Infotainment systems is one of the fastest growing areas within Automotive today. Competition is no longer limited to traditional automotive competitors, as innovative and fast-moving companies like Google and Apple are also starting to get involved in the area. The Connected Experience unit within R&D includes Connectivity and Car Cloud Platform, Infotainment Platform, Applications and Data & Diagnostics. Our vision and strategy is to maximize the attractiveness of owning and using a Volvo, make all cars connected and provide a continuously enhanced experience for both new and existing cars.
As an Android Software Developer, you will design and develop touch based user interfaces to control various parts of the vehicle. You will have access to vehicle APIs and Android permissions beyond those used in usual app development. You should be familiar with modern app architecture patterns and be confidently able to establish a good architecture in new projects and nurturing them as they grow in size. Automated testing is central to the project so you should have good knowledge of software testing, test driven development and the tools commonly used to implement them in Android development.
What you'll do
You will be developing features in Volvo’s core applications along with working with Designers to create intuitive and attractive user interfaces. You will be making architectural decisions that will deliver scalable and maintainable apps as well as ensuring that the code is well tested.
Who you are
We are looking for someone with a M.Sc in Software Engineering or equivalent experience through years of practice. You have several years’ experience of Android app development and have good knowledge in Android Java, Kotlin and Android Studio. You are familiar with modern app architectural patterns (MVP, MVVM, layered architecture, refactoring) as well as having good knowledge of Android testing frameworks (Junit, Espresso, Mockito). You will also bring experience in AOSP and the AOSP build system, as well as having fluent English skills both written and spoken.
What would also be beneficial in this role, is if you would also bring experience from Embedded Linux Development along with experience from working with Continuous Integration. Experience within Automotive, Infotainment and from working in an international environment. A Driver’s license (B-level) will also be ideal.

You should be a clear communicator and a great team player, with positive and pro-active attitude. You are a problem solver, with good analytical skills.
