Application experts in AI/ML to the National Supercomputer Centre, Sweden

Arbetsbeskrivning

Skilled and committed employees are a crucial factor in the success of Linköping University. And we need more of them. Our core expertise comes from teachers and researchers, but a successful university requires experienced and motivated employees in many fields. Everyone is important. We need to recruit many new employees thanks to, among all, an expansion in our research activity. We need you here. We look forward to receiving your application!

National Supercomputer Centre (NSC) houses large-scale parallel computer systems and advanced computer graphics equipment for visualisation and virtual reality. We hold courses in the use of high-performance computing (HPC) resources, run a help desk and collaborate directly with R&D projects in the HPC field. Our aim is to provide Sweden’s most attractive environment for research in scientific fields that perform large-scale calculations and other e-science activities. Our computers are available to users around the clock, every day of the year.

Linköping University, Sweden

Hereby advertises a position as application expert in AI/ML
NSC is looking for 1-2 experts in artificial intelligence/machine learning (AI/ML) for the development of advanced computation and data storage services for Swedish research focused on high-performance computing (HPC).

Together with the Knut and Alice Wallenberg (KAW) Foundation, and their strategic initiatives Wallenberg AI, Autonomous Systems and Software Program (WASP) and Data-Driven Life Science (DDLS), NSC has carried out the first installation of SEK 150 million-worth of high-performance computing infrastructure – Berzelius, an NVIDIA DGX-A100 SuperPOD – primarily providing for the computational AI/ML needs of KAW’s strategic initiatives. This first installation will be followed by at least one more of the same size in 2024. Services and solutions for supporting the ever-changing ways of working with super computers are to be developed in an effective way – with a special focus on deep neural networks (DNN) with many hundreds of GPUs. Large investments will also be made to manage the handling of sensitive data.

NSC is now looking to strengthen its domain expertise in AI/ML, in line with how our expert support was developed earlier for traditional HPC applications in physics, chemistry, climate modelling etc. We are looking for somebody with strong DNN skills to develop computational resources and services corresponding to our user groups’ needs.

Duties
You will join an existing group of nine domain experts at NSC – application experts with varying domain knowledge – who have for ten years been working on effective use of NSC’s computational resources. The group works closely together with NSC’s technical experts – a collaboration which NSC sees as key to its successful work on user-friendly services. Compute clusters and distributed data storage at the technological forefront are the main tools in this work, and the end users are Sweden’s most prominent researchers. The job is based in Linköping, with the possibility of remote work up to 40% of the time.

Qualifications
To succeed in this role, you will need:

• an educational background equivalent to an Engineering Msc with focus on programming/computer science – or equivalent knowledge acquired by other means
• documented excellent knowledge of Python and one or more of the most prominent DL frameworks – PyTorch, TensorFlow or even MXNet – are a must. Demonstrate your knowledge in these areas indirectly with reference to previous work experience or directly through a list of publications or contributions in, for example, open source code projects
• Thorough experience of Linux/Unix is necessary

Further desirable qualifications include

• Relevant work experience
• A PhD or equivalent experience
• Distributed DNN training with TensorFlow, PyTorch or another framework
• GDS, Dali
• Further Deep Learning frameworks
• HPC or a similar field such as parallel programming
• Linux Containers, Singularity, Docker or other technology
• CUDA, C++
• Use and handling of sensitive data

Form of employment
Full time. A probationary period of 6 months may be applied. You may work remotely up to 40% of the time.

Starting date
As agreed between employer and employee.

Salary and employment benefits
The university applies individual salaries. Please indicate salary demands in the application.
We offer good terms for combining family and full-time work.
