Symcel
Symcel is a Swedish medtech company that develops and sells an analytical instrument for measuring cell metabolism with high sensitivity. We are located at Karolinska Institute campus in Solna with modern facilities including sales, marketing, production and R&D labs.

This includes finding novel treatments for cancer and antibiotic-resistant bacteria and gaining a deeper understanding of metabolic diseases. We have early traction on international R&D markets with strong support from top KOLs and around 20 scientific papers published. Customer are researchers in academia and industry that use our real-time in-vitro measurements of cell metabolism in a wide range of new assays within microbiology and cell biology.

About the position
We are looking for an Application Scientist, with a strong background in preferentially cell metabolism and/or microbiology. This is a temporary position for one year to cover for parental leave, but with the goal and opportunity of permanent employment to follow.
You will be a vital part of the Application development and S&M teams contributing to the development of new calorimetry applications. You will also work closely with established and potential customers during external and internal demos, mainly within the field of microbiology. Work includes design and execution of experimental project plans, results analysis, presentation and documentation of results for product development and customer projects, training potential users and performing demos. A key task of the role will be disseminating information and project results to both internal and external stakeholders.
We are looking for a person that enjoys practical laboratory work, takes responsibility for the full cycle of product development or customer projects (plan-execute-analyze-present), has excellent communication skills and is good at establishing collaborative working relationships within cross-functional teams including sales and marketing.
In addition to work within development projects, you are expected to contribute to other activities which may include planning, coordination and performing common tasks, suggesting improvements, reporting deviations, and by other means actively contributing to the fulfilment of goals within the team and the company.
Essential for the role:
PhD in a Biological Sciences discipline, preferably with a large focus on microbiology or cell metabolism
Extensive laboratory experience
Critical-thinking, problem-solving and time-management skills
Strong customer focus
Highly proficient in spoken and written English
Excellent interpersonal skills with a strong collaboration mindset



Desirable for the role:
Industry experience as an application scientist or lab scientist
Previous work with bacteria and/or fungi, different types of cell-based assays
Previous work within cell metabolism or calorimetry methods
Experience in marketing or science communication
Previous customer-facing experience
