APS - New Modalities Conjugation Chemistry

AstraZeneca R&D, New Modalities Chemistry, Gothenburg, Sweden seek to recruit an Associate Principal Scientist responsible for New Modalities Conjugates in the Therapeutic Area Respiratory and Immunology (R&I).

The department of Medicinal Chemistry in the therapeutic area of Respiratory & Immunology is focused on the delivery of Small Molecule (SM) and New Modalities (NM) clinical candidates. In this context, we are focused on growing the use of novel peptide and oligonucleotide-based modalities and molecular conjugates in the treatment of respiratory and immunological diseases.

Job description

You will be part of a team of scientists dedicated to discovering drugs based on peptide and oligonucleotide chemistry. As an authority in the field of oligonucleotide conjugation you will contribute to R&I portfolio projects, including management of external resources and collaborations. You are expected to also lead from the bench, directly influencing the design of novel chemical entities by highlighting opportunities built up by recent scientific progress within oligonucleotide focused conjugation chemistry. You will work in a multidisciplinary environment and mentor less experienced co-workers.



Major Duties and Responsibilities

* Actively impact portfolio projects to ensure state of the art (bio)conjugation chemistry
* Contribution to identification of novel delivery technology applicable to ASO and/or siRNA therapeutics.
* Effective collaboration with project team members and colleagues in other departments
* Drive internal and external scientific visibility through publications and scientific presentations

Requirements and Qualifications

* PhD in Bio-/Organic Chemistry
* Professional experience around oligonucleotide conjugation with peptides and/or small molecules
* Knowledge of recent developments in oligonucleotide (bio-)conjugation chemistry
* Knowledge of tissue specific delivery of oligonucleotides or peptides is a bonus.
* Experience in pharmaceutical drug discovery of oligonucleotide drug candidates is a plus
* Strong scientific curiosity in novel technology and methods
* Excellent communication and collaboration skills
