We are currently preparing to support two new games: Minecraft Earth and Minecraft Dungeons, as well as continuing work on core Minecraft. As a result of our increased scope, we are looking for an Art Director to join the Creative Team. Currently our Creative Team consists of 30 members, including writers, product designers and producers. The successful applicant would need to work from our Stockholm office.
We are looking for an art director who is creatively-minded, but also strategic in approach. The position will require a broad skill set; projects can range from campaign trailers, event content strategies, graphic design for assets, visual identities across new games, and more. That would include tight collaboration and great communication with many areas of our business including our marketing, events, media, and development teams, some of which are based overseas in our Redmond office.
You will at all times keep true to the brand, and at the same time exercise the balancing act of extending it for the specific art or for new product’s unique identity. You will set the artistic direction, while overlooking and ensuring consistency in collaborations cross studios together with our studio’s Art Directors and with the support of our Creative Director, designers and partner agencies. You will generate ideas, set art direction based on brand experience briefs as well as formulate creative art briefs and direct partner agencies and designers within our studios.
Key to this role is the ability to set the art direction, direct, inspire and motivate the artist(s) working on Brand Experience initiatives for the Minecraft Franchise.
Requirements
A strong portfolio which demonstrates a broad skill set and an ability to work across a range of styles and expressions.
Have the ability to visualise projects with craft and care as well as delivering them from concept to execution.
Have the ability to generating, workshopping, and collaborating on briefs and tasks within a cross-studio environment.
A knowledge and appreciation of pop culture.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English, comfortably working with partners from all over the world.
To succeed in this role, you have the ability to carry on the creative vision for our brand. We believe this requires you to have a passion for art and the ability to inspire, motivate and communicate (or visualise!) creative decisions to stakeholders and provide day to day artistic feedback and mentorship of individual contributors. You are diplomatic, determined and knows when to push to make things happen, but also when to let things go.
You are highly organized and able to work with a broad team of experts, to manage multiple timelines and resources. And of course, you are a team player and humble enough to realize when you need others to succeed with your mission!
