The department, team, and job:
This position will connect the operational (Planning and Optimisation Nordic) and analytical (Fundamental Analysis) teams. Planning and Optimisation Nordic is a team responsible for maximising Vattenfall’s Nordic hydro-, nuclear- and heat production on the Nordic power and ancillary service markets. As part of the Analysis department, the Fundamental Analysis team delivers models and analyses on power markets, deals and assets. We provide model-based forecasts of power prices and analysis of price drivers to support decision making in the traded market horizon and beyond. Long- and short-term inflow forecasting are key drivers in all these processes.
The position is located in Arenastaden, Solna (Stockholm) as part of an international team of highly professional, skilled analysts, located in Hamburg and Stockholm.
What you will mainly do:
The focus of this role will be all aspects of Nordic hydrology and its representation in our fundamental models as well in operational production planning processes. You will get the opportunity to engage in
Coordination and driving our hydro model development for forecasting and operational production planning.
Development of our hydrological models and integration with our fundamental models.
Improving our inflow forecast by, for example including internal metrological forecast.
Developing new model features according to stakeholder requirements (e.g. improved snow modelling).
Improving model architecture to make more efficient use of the cloud infrastructure and optimize code and data integration.
Enabling profitable trading strategies through providing hydrological and price forecasting analyses.
If you are not already familiar with the Nordic power market you will get the unique opportunity to learn it from the inside. You will not only serve the organisation with hydrological expertise but also have external contacts towards organisations such as SMHI, Water Regulation Enterprises and Energiforsk.
Qualifications
Strong interest and experience in Nordic Hydrology and power markets acquired by work experience or education
A relevant University degree, for example in Engineering, Hydrology, Mathematics or similar
A high computer literacy, in particular programming skills in Python.
An understanding of how to facilitate cooperation with different stakeholders
Fluency in English and Swedish (these are both strictly required).
Willingness to travel occasionally.
