Assistant Principal
This is an exciting opportunity to be a part of leading and developing one of Skärholmen’s best schools!
About the role:
-The position of Assistant Principal is vital to the success of the school. The Assistant Principal Senior School is part of the school’s Management Team and works in close cooperation with the Principal helping to coordinate all aspects of the school’s activities.
-You will be responsible for managing the staff and students on a daily basis as well as being responsible for maintaining our high expectations of discipline and order and must therefore have a genuine interest in working with a wide range of people.
-You will ensure that school is a safe learning environment for all students, including working with the school’s Plan Against Abusive Treatment and ensuring all parts of this plan are being followed and evaluated throughout the course of the Academic Year.
-You will build upon and develop behavior and welfare systems in the school, enabling teachers to teach and students to learn.
- In cooperation with the school’s Principal you will lead the Pastoral work within the school working closely with, leading, and developing the Student Care Team and Heads of Years.
-You will play a large role in collaboration with parents, either via individual parent meetings, or via work with PTA (Parent Teacher Association).
-The Assistant Principal assists with staff development and salary talks, as well as staff training and professional development.
-You will work closely with the other members of the school Management Team including the Principal, Assistant Principal for Jnr School, Academic Manager, and Student Care Manager.
Who are you?
-You should have experience implementing both preventative and behavioural practices and policies within schools, as well as experience collaborating with and leading Student Care and Student Health teams to ensure students’ best interests are being met.
-You should have strong knowledge of state and municipal policy documents including the Swedish School Law and the Swedish curriculum (LGR11), Plan Against Abusive Treatment in Schools.
-As you will have a large role in the school’s Systematic Quality Work, you should have a genuine interest in educational development and its organization as well as implementation.
-As a member of the school’s Management Team you must also be a proven leader with great competence in recruiting, supporting, and developing staff within the school.
-You should be an excellent communicator who shows a genuine care and interest in collaborating with, and coaching staff of different experiential and cultural backgrounds.
-You should be a firm believer that clarity in leadership, clear convictions, discipline, and a high degree of structure provide the basic conditions for focusing on education and achieving outstanding results.
-To be accepted for the position you will need relevant academic education and previous experience as a school leader. The ability to communicate in both Swedish and English is of high importance.
In addition to being an able leader and manager you also need to be a flexible team player dealing with tasks that are challenging but at the same time rewarding. You should pride yourself on being a visible and approachable leader who works hard to be an active and positive participant in the school community. About IES Skärholmen:
IES Skärholmen is located in Sätra, 7 minutes walk from Sätra metro station. The school opened in 2013 and currently has 670 students from years 4 to 9. The school is a fantastic and diverse learning environment: staff and students have a broad range of different backgrounds and cultures. Today, IES Skärholmen has a strong learning culture and solid routines. Staff are dedicated educators and work in a supportive and collegial atmosphere which continues to develop the learning environment. The school has a relatively new leadership team and is currently looking at strengthening the school’s link with the local community, creating school traditions and working helping students develop life skills.
