Assistant Principal (Pastoral)

Internationella Engelska Skolan (IES) is a leading independent school group ("friskola") with academic results far above average and a diverse and energetic staff. Teaching is through both Swedish and English, with English the language of the corridors. IES is one of Sweden's largest school groups at "Grundskolan" with 38 schools and around 27,200 students across the country. IES has grown steadily and maintained quality since 1993.

IES Eskilstuna is one of the largest schools in Sweden with nearly 1,300 students enrolled in grades 1-9 and approx 140 staff members.

Internationella Engelska Skolan is looking for a committed and professional Assistant Principal (Pastoral) senior school, to start in August 2020

You are calm and self-controlled under pressure and a role model committed to achieving our IES ethos. You are a specialist in pastoral school culture and behaviour management.
You will report to the Principal.

• Thorough understanding of school operations
• Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills
• Good working knowledge Swedish/English
• Ability to coordinate student support work
• Working knowledge of Swedish school law related to student care
• Ability and credentials to evaluate teacher effectiveness
• Strong leadership skills
• Ability to coordinate schedules, events and school functions
• Ability to implement and evaluate policies and procedures
• Specialist knowledge in behaviour management
• Ability to effectively train staff and achieve results

Main responsibilities:

School / Organizational Climate

• Promote a positive school culture and, with the principal, lead the pastoral/student care operations
• Train staff with the required knowledge and skills to ensure a calm learning environment
• Lead and support the student care, student development and year teams

School Improvement

• Coordinate and develop the systematic quality work for the pastoral wing of the school
• Secure positive student attitudes and behaviour across the school
• With the principal, engage the local community with the values of the school

Personnel Management

• Share supervisory and leadership responsibility for teaching staff with the principal
