Swedish University of Agricultural Sciences Department of Forest Ecology and Management Umeå Assistant Professor in the subject area "Distribution of resource acquisition and growth among trees in different silvicultural systems" SLU develops the understanding and sustainable use of biological natural resources.This is achieved through research, teaching, environmental monitoring and assessment and information extension.SLU has 3 000 employees, 5 000 undergraduate and postgraduate students.www.slu.se The department of Forest Ecology and Management http://www.seksko.se seeks an Assistant Professors interested in how the distribution of resource acquisition and growth varies among trees in different silvicultural systems.The department has c.80 staff, of which 14 are professors.It was formed through the amalgamation of three smaller departments in 2007, which provided a strong basis for collaborative work across the disciplines silviculture, plant science and soil science. Duty: The major duty of the Assistant Professor is to conduct research within the field described above.Eligibility: A person is eligible for this position if she/he has demonstrated scientific proficiency in research relevant for this position, i.e.silviculture, tree ecophysiology and plant-soil relations.Ideally, the previous work of the applicant should have bridged across these disciplines.Applicants should have a Ph.D.or the equivalent in any of these disciplines; preferably not more than five years should have passed since the date of this exam.Assessment criteria: Special attention will be given to the applicant s scientific skills.Documented ability to obtain funding for research from external donors is a merit, as is international postdoctoral experience.This is primarily a 4-year-position commencing 1 January 2010.Succesful candidates may at the end of the 4-year-period apply for a tenured position at the Faculty.SLU is an equal opportunity employer.Further information about the post is provided by the Head of Department, Prof. Salaries are negotiated on an individual basis.Required documents to be submitted: The application should be written in English.The following documents should be included with each application: CV including a publication list, PhD diploma, copies of no more than five publications, a description of previous research and other activities of relevance for the position (maximum two pages), and a description of planned research that the applicant intends to carry out within this position (maximum two pages).Names and addresses of at least two persons able to provide references for the candidate should also be provided.We welcome your application, marked with the reference number 1216/09 that should be sent to the Registry Office, SLU, P.O.Box 7070, SE-750 07 Uppsala, Sweden.
