Swedish University of Agricultural Sciences Faculty of Natural Resources and Agricultural Sciences Department of Aquatic Science and Assessment, Uppsala ASSISTANT PROFESSOR (forskarassistent) in Modeling landscape-scale surface water chemistry The Department of Environment Assessment (www.ma.slu.se) has a unique national responsibility for assessing the condition of Swedish surface waters with respect to both water chemistry and the aquatic biota.This involves identifying human influence on aquatic ecosystems, as well as distinguishing those influences from natural variability.The mission is pursued through a comprehensive program of monitoring, research and development, as well as teaching.The breadth of expertise among the 90 members of the department (geochemical/biological, aquatic/terrestrial) combined with a strong international network, is an important strength.The department is located on SLU's rural Ultuna campus, 15 minutes by bike from the medieval city of Uppsala, and just over an hour from Stockholm Research area: The Department of Aquatic Science and Assessment is pleased to announce a four-year Assistant Professor position in modeling landscape-scale surface water chemistry The focus will be on synthesizing and the upscaling the biogeochemical and hydrological effects of climate change as well as intensified forestry for biofuels on surface water chemistry (DOC, acidity, metals, and nutrients) in the stream network of Sweden's nemo-boreal landscape.This synthesis will represent forest waters in the multidisciplinary Future Forest program (www.futureforests.se ) to help guide tomorrow's forest management toward the achievement of multiple goals, including those for aquatic ecosystem services.Duties: The primary duty of an Assistant Professor at the Faculty is to develop the science within the subject area.An Assistant Professor will also be expected to contribute to the education of students at the faculty.Eligibility: Applicants should hold a PhD degree or a foreign degree deemed to be equivalent to a doctorate in biogeochemistry, aquatic sciences or the equivalent.Priority will be given to applicants who have been awarded their PhD degree at most five years before the last date for applications.Assessment criteria: Particular emphasis will be placed on scientific qualifications within the subject area.Broad experience of biogeochemistry, hydrology and mathematical modelling will be given special consideration in the evaluation of applications.The position is full-time and will be granted for a period of four years, starting as soon as possible.Required documents to be submitted: The application should be written in English.The following documents should be included with each application: CV including a publication list, PhD diploma, copies of no more than five publications, a description of previous research and other activities of relevance for the position (maximum two pages), and a description of planned research that the applicant intends to carry out within this position (maximum two pages).Names and addresses of at least two persons able to provide references for the candidate should also be provided.The application and all enclosed documents should be submitted in triplicate.
