Assistant Professor in Computer Architecture

Arbetsbeskrivning

The Department of Computer Science and Engineering is a joint department at Chalmers University of Technology and the University of Gothenburg, with activities on two campuses in the city of Gothenburg. The department has around 210 employees from over 30 countries. Our research has a wide span, from theoretical foundations to applied systems development. We provide high quality education at Bachelor's, Master's and graduate levels, offering over 120 courses each year. We also have extensive national and international collaborations with academia, industry and society.

Information about the research/the project/the department
The Department of Computer Science and Engineering conducts research and education in many fields: algorithms, computer architecture, computer security, distributed systems, electronics design, formal methods, logic, networking, software technology, software engineering, language technology and reliable computer systems subdivided into five divisions. The Division of Computer Engineering conducts research and education in high-performance computer architectures, computer graphics, dependable real-time systems and VLSI circuit design.

The High-Performance Computer Architecture Group is conducting research on design principles for the next generations of mainstream as well as embedded high-performance computers. To ease the programming task and yet achieve high computational performance at as high energy efficiency as possible are important objectives in the knowledge generation process that the group contributes to. To this end, the group has a solid track record in contributing to design principles of parallel computers and a current focus is on heterogeneous multi-core computers. The group participates in the HiPEAC European Network of Excellence as a partner and in three major projects that focus on multi-core architectures.

Major responsibilities
The Division of Computer Engineering is seeking candidates for a tenure-track assistant professor position in Computer Architecture for four years with possibility of earning a permanent position.

Your primary duty as non-tenured assistant professor is to perform your own research, generally as a member of a research group. The position also includes teaching for about 20 per cent of your working hours, primarily on undergraduate and master's levels, as well as supervising PhD students to a certain extent. Another important aspect involves collaboration within academia and with society at large. The position is meritorious for future research duties within academia as well as industry/the public sector.

Position summary
The candidate is expected to do independent research (75%) in the area of high-performance computer architecture with a focus on heterogeneous multi-core architectures. The candidate is also expected to enrich the research in the group by co-supervising PhD students. The candidate is expected to teach in computer architecture related courses (25%).

Full-time temporary employment for a maximum of four years. Progress will be assessed after two years. You are expected to achieve associate professor expertise within four years.

Qualifications
The candidate shall have a PhD Degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or Electrical Engineering with a PhD thesis in the area of Computer Architecture or in a closely related field. The degree should generally not be older than five years. You are expected to be somewhat accustomed to teaching, and to demonstrate good potential within research and education. Experience from a postdoc position or qualified research and development in industry/the public sector is meritorious.

The position requires sound verbal and written communication skills in Swedish and English. If Swedish is not your native language, you should be able to teach in Swedish on undergraduate level after two years. Chalmers offers Swedish courses.

Chalmers continuously strives to be an attractive employer. Equality and diversity are substantial foundations in all activities at Chalmers.
