The Department of Physics is building up its strength in Nanophysics, and we are looking for outstanding candidates for a position as Assistant Professor in the field.Assistant Professor (forskarassistent) in Condensed Matter Physics The Department of Physics at Umeå University is seeking applicants for a four-year position at the rank of Assistant Professor (Forskarassistent), beginning in the fall semester of 2006 or early 2007.A successful applicant should have a record of outstanding experimental research in the field of Condensed Matter Physics or Materials Physics, in particular Nanostructured Materials.The Department of Physics has an active research program in Condensed Matter Physics and Nanophysics.The experimental work in this area has an emphasis on the physical properties of nanostructured materials based on polymeric and doped fullerenes, carbon nanotubes, and filled nanotubes, but there are also activities focusing on amorphous materials and hydrogen storage as well as some biological systems.The Condensed Matter Theory group carries out research in the fields of complex networks, quantum transport, superconductivity and quantum information.We are now looking for a person to strengthen our efforts in experimental studies on nanostructured materials and to support, complement and extend our work in this field.The position is initially for two years, normally with a prolongation of another two years.The Faculty of Science and Technology encourages assistant professors to participate in undergraduate teaching up to 20% of their working time.Such teaching participation qualifies for an extension of the position up to a total of five years.Teaching duties require excellent proficiency in either Swedish or English.
