Assistant Professor in High temperature processes

Assistant Professor in High temperature processes

Arbetsbeskrivning

The Division of Energy Technology is looking for a motivated and aspirational Assistant Professor ready to take an active part in the development of our research related to high-temperature processes as well as supervision and undergraduate teaching. The position offers you the opportunity to be part of a dedicated and quality-conscious supportive team that will encourage you to develop as a researcher. You will get the chance to work with researcher with various backgrounds and experience and we therefore value your good collaborative and social skills to complement our team.

Information about the division and the project
High temperature processes in industry are facing a challenge in electrification and the demand for research, and, education of next-generation engineers is already here. Industries like iron and steel as well as cement have a pressing need for development of new technologies as well as to integrate and install these technologies in their processes. The Division of Energy Technology is well-equipped to assist this transformation and is already seeing a need to grow in the research area of high temperature processes and education of energy engineers.

In the position you will be part of a team that develops our high-temperature research at Chalmers. This includes the design of new measurement devices, installation of equipment and execution of experiments. You are also expected to take an active part in the development of the research field, supervision of PhD-students as well as in undergraduate teaching. You will work with researchers with internationally recognized experience in the field of research on energy conversion and gas cleaning technologies. As an employee at the Division of Energy Technology you will be part of a research community with the general aim to reduce the environmental impact of energy conversion and industrial processes. All work will be conducted in close collaboration with our industrial partners.

- The details of the departmental research activities may be found here.

Major responsibilities
Your major responsibilities as an Assistant Professor are to take your part in the described project, including development of new experimental methods and modelling tools to study heat and mass transfer phenomena in reacting flows, and to publish high-quality research in scientific journals and at conferences. In addition, you will take an active role in in the teaching at the Division of Energy Technology, with courses focusing on thermodynamics and technical-oriented energy science. You are also expected to actively participate in supervision of PhD students and the development of the research area.

Contract terms
Full-time temporary employment. The appointment as Assistant Professor is a four-year entry-level faculty position with tenure track, whereby you will acquire both pedagogical and research qualifications. The aim is to achieve the level of Associate Professor within four years and if successful you will be offered a permanent faculty position at Chalmers

Qualifications
To qualify for this position, you need a PhD degree in a relevant field not older than 7 years prior to the application deadline. Exceptions can be made for longer periods resulting from parental leave or military service. You need to have hands on experience on modelling and experiments related to industrial and technical scale units. A post-doctoral stay or equivalent experience is also required, normally at University, institute or organisation other than where you were a PhD student. You are familiar with algebraic modeling languages (Matlab/Python) and process simulations (Aspen plus). Experience from model development with focus on transport phenomena in high-temperature processes is a key merit, as well as university level teaching and supervision.
