Assistant Professor of physics with tenure track

Assistant Professor of physics with tenure track

Arbetsbeskrivning

Introduction
The Department of Physics at Chalmers University of Technology, embedded in one of Sweden’s largest physics environments, now seeks a highly motivated young researcher and engaged teacher with international experience to expand our research portfolio in experimental, theoretical, and/or applied physics (see www.chalmers.se/en/departments/physics/research/Pages/default.aspx for an outline of present research activities at the department).

Our offer to you includes:
• A four-year tenure-track position at Chalmers
• Funding for one PhD student and some operational costs
• Leadership programmes together with courses in graduate student supervision and teaching
• A language course for non-Swedish speakers
• A relocation package (including moving costs and help with practical issues for people moving to Sweden)
• A permanent faculty position at Chalmers after successfully passing tenure assessment

We welcome applications from persons active in all areas of physics! Examples of research directions that could be particularly fruitful to pursue include theoretical soft matter and statistical physics; physics based on large infrastructures (external and/or in-house); physics for a sustainable future; development of visualization and analysis methods for biophysics and materials science; and interdisciplinary physics.

Major responsibilities
Your primary duty as Assistant Professor is to perform your own research, and to build a research group with international visibility. The position also includes teaching for about 20 per cent of your working hours, primarily on undergraduate and master's levels, as well as supervising PhD and MSc students. Another important aspect involves collaboration within academia and with society at large.

Position summary
The appointment as Assistant Professor is a four-year entry-level faculty position with tenure-track, whereby the employee gets the opportunity to further develop both pedagogical and scientific qualifications. An Assistant Professor is expected to improve their ability to formulate and solve scientific problems, to publish scientific articles, to attract external funding, and to develop abilities in teaching and supervision. A progress follow-up will be conducted after two years and a final tenure assessment will be conducted towards the end of the period of appointment (more information here). Read more about working at Chalmers and our benefits for employees.
