Assistant professor in Materials Science
The vision for the Materials Science Area of Advance is to make an impact on society and contribute to sustainability through excellence in materials science. Our research, education and innovation focus on three challenge-driven areas:
- Materials for Health (materials and tissue interaction, biomaterials, bio-sensing)
- Materials for energy application (energy storage, conversion and distribution, solar harvesting)
- Sustainable materials (catalysis, corrosion, light-weight composites and alloys, materials from renewable feedstock).
Important enablers in this work are:
- Application and development of advanced experimental tools, both in-house and at neutron and synchrotron X-ray sources.
- Application and development of advanced computational tools from atomistic to continuum length scales.
Our faculty have a broad background and hold appointments with departments such as Chemistry and Chemical Engineering, Materials and Manufacturing, Physics, Microtechnology and Nanoscience and Applied Mechanics. Chalmers has a long tradition of outstanding research in materials science, physics and chemistry. The strength of the environment lies in the broad spectrum of research topics (soft and supramolecular matter – functional oxides – metals – intermetallics – composites – alloys), and in the fact that many programs span the complete range from curiosity-driven research to applications. The breadth of the research provides a readiness to take on new challenges faced by society. It also provides a basis for a close collaboration with industry on different levels and on different time scales.
