The Department of Political Science has an open climate which encourages involvement in broader societal debates. Research areas of specialization include elections, democracy, corruption, governance, globalization, environmental politics as well as European studies. The department houses research programs such as QoG institute, Varieties of Democracy (V-Dem), Governance and local development (GLD and The Swedish Election Studies Program. The department offers education on all levels; undergraduate, graduate and PhD, carried out in both English and Swedish. We have a total of 1,300 students enrolled in our courses, and 140 people are employed at the Department. The Department is centrally located in the city of Gothenburg.
Why are some communities able to provide secure environments, good education, and adequate healthcare, and other factors that promote human development, while others fail to do so? Job assignments
The assistant researcher will be an additional support to the GLD-team under intense work periods. Tasks may vary during the period of employment depending on the progress of the research, but the main tasks will be in data preparation. E.g. preparing methodology notes, cleaning and coding data, reshaping of data, putting data into different types and formats as needed and data analysis.
Qualifications
You should have a bachelor degree in Political Sciences, Social Sciences, Economics, Statistics, IT or related field. Knowledge of quantitative methodologies and analysis as well as skills in data processing is required. Given the short introduction and time of employment, we are looking for you with previous experience in a research project is a requirement, particularly with quantitative focus. Experience of Stata is required. Demonstrated knowledge and interest in surveys as well as governance and development research is an advantage, but not required. Highly developed writing and communication skills with the ablity to work well with a large, fluid and diverse team is required. An eye for details is required as well as being a problem solver and being able to structure your time. Fluency in English is required (working language of the GLD Program). Knowledge of Arabic, French, and/or Swedish is a plus. Major importance is attached to the candidate's personal suitability for the position.
