The School of Engineering is one of four schools within Jönköping University.

We offer attractive education at undergraduate and graduate levels and conduct research in several areas. As a collaborative school, we spread knowledge to the surrounding society and co-develop new technology. We have been awarded the accreditation "Engaged University" by the international organization ACEEU (Accreditation Council for Entrepreneurial and Engaged Universities).

The Department of Computer Science and Informatics (CSI), is one of two departments within IT and provides academic programmes in subjects ranging from software engineering and embedded systems to user experience design and cyber security, and is also conducting research in associated areas. Our education programmes are developed in close collaboration with the surrounding industry and have a yearly intake of about 300 students. To further support interdisciplinary research, the department maintains a close relationship with its sister department: the Department of Computing, which includes the Jönköping AI Lab (JAIL). IT is an expanding area at School of Engineering, and we are hiring several assistant and associate professors.

For this position we are looking for an Associate or Assistant Professor in Computer Science with a specialization in Human-Computer Interaction to join our team.

 

Job description

In the employment as assistant/associate professor, you will perform teaching and research within the main subject area of Informatics with a focus on Human Computer Interaction (HCI). Depending on the applicant’s background, the teaching may be centered around Graphic Design, Motion Graphics, Interaction Design, User Experience Design or Digital Product Development.

You are expected to build and maintain an academic and industrial network, actively apply for research funding, and play a key role in establishing and conducting research projects. You will keep yourself updated on your research area and the industrial and societal development of relevance for our department and keep our courses and programmes up to date. You are also expected to collaborate with other departments and schools at Jönköping University.

 

Qualifications

You should have a PhD in a relevant area and pedagogical merits according to the Appointments Procedure at Jönköping University. The candidate must have documented skills in teaching in English. You should also have a track record in attracting research funding.

You need to have teaching experience and implementation skills in at least one of the following areas:

- Interaction design and front-end development;
- Adaptability and personalization based on user and application models, data analytics and social media analytics;
- Visualization and interpretation of information;
- Cognitive science, UX, human factors.
- Implementation skills in graphic design or motion graphics (Illustrator, Sketch, Adobe XD, Adobe After Effects);



You should be development and quality-oriented, responsible, and pedagogically skilled. It is also advantageous if you perform well in an interdisciplinary environment.

It is meritorious if you have:

- Ability to teach in Swedish
- Industrial experience
- Experience from research in cooperation with industry

The ability to teach in other areas relevant to the department (HCI, Cyber Security, Project management, Marketing etc.)

Information

The position is a permanent employment of 100%, starting 1st of January 2023 or by agreement. Collective agreements and individual wage apply.

This recruitment will be coordinated by Programme Manager and Head of our HCI Lab, Bruce Ferwerda.
