Assistant professor in Satellite Atmospheric Science

The new assistant professor will be part of the Satellite Atmospheric Science (SAT) group, which belongs to the Institute of Space Science (IRV) at Kiruna Space Campus.The institute belongs to Luleå University of Technology, but collaborates also closely with the Swedish Institute of Space Physics (IRF).Both institutions have not only a focus on space, but also a focus on environmental science, in particular atmospheric science.The SAT group is using and developing space technology to study Earth's atmosphere.We offer an open and friendly work environment with a strong focus on research.More information can be found on the websites http://www.sat.ltu.se (working group), http://www.ltu.se/irv (IRV), and http://www.irf.se (IRF).


Research area

The research area of the new assistant professor should be inside the research areas of the SAT group, or have a strong synergy with them.Particularly welcome research areas are radiative transfer modeling, climate modeling, cloud microphysical modeling, and remote sensing of humidity, clouds, and precipitation.

The position is for 2+2 years.

Duties

The duties of an assistant professor are 80% research and 20% teaching.The candidate should be experienced enough to take full responsibility for a course.Research duties include writing publications, writing funding applications, and advising PhD and master thesis students.

Formal requirements

To be eligible for employment as assistant professor the candidate must have a complete PhD, or some other title that is judged to be equivalent.The position is mainly intended for researchers that have completed their PhD not more than five years before the application deadline.

Selection criteria

The selection will be based on the scientific qualification.Scientific qualification will be judged by publication record, compatibility of the research area with ongoing research, project experience, funding record, and collaboration record.

Fluency in English is required.Knowledge of Swedish is not required, but it is assumed that the candidate is prepared to learn Swedish in the first years.
