The Department of Business Administration is the largest department at the School of Business, Economics and Law and carries out extensive research and education in the areas of business administration and economic geography. Logistics is an important research area with five professors.
Subject description
Maritime logistics research is dominated by the container segment and international research can often be translated into Swedish conditions. Swedish foreign trade, Swedish shipping companies and Swedish ports, however, are clearly more dependent on the RoRo and RoPax segments. The segments are also clearly contextual, with route specific vessels, competitive situation and seasonal dependencies. In addition, RoPax is a transport service with varying character of demand as both passengers and goods in various forms is transported.
The associate senior lecturer is expected to carry out society-relevant research about RoRo and RoPax shipping in a transport chain context cooperating closely with Swedish shipping companies and their customers. The focus of the research is competitiveness for companies and the traffic mode, fulfilment of UN’s sustainability goals and society policy making.
The research shall contribute to the projects The role of liner shipping for robust supply chains, iHamn, DREAMIT 2.0 and similar externally funded projects.
Work assignments
A position as associate senior lecturer constitutes an initial step in a career development system. The work consists of at least 50% research and not more than 50% teaching. The applicant is expected to work in projects with researchers from other academic fields. Teaching is espected to be carried out in the bachelor programme Logistikprogrammet and in the masters programme Logistics and Transport Management.
Eligibility
The associate senior lecturer is employed for four years to enable her or him to develop research autonomy and acquire qualifications required for eligibility for appointment to another teaching post requiring more advanced qualifications. The appointment may be extended by maximum two years due to illness, parental leave or other special grounds if additional time is needed to fulfil the purpose of the appointment.
To qualify for employment as associate senior lecturer, applicants shall have been awarded a PhD or have attained equivalent research qualifications prior to the date of application. Preference should be given to those who were awarded a PhD or attained equivalent research qualifications no more than five years prior to the application deadline. Those awarded a PhD more than five years ago should also be given preference if special grounds apply, such as leave of absence from work or studies due to illness, service in the defense forces, an elected position in a trade union/student organization or parental leave.
Assessment
For the advertised position, we look for a person with documented teaching and research experience in the field of business administration with a focus on logistics. Experience of research within intra-European liner shipping is considered as a particularly important qualification. Ability to establish and develop collaborations within education and also outside the research field of business administration will also be considered. Knowledge of a Scandinavian language is considered a particularly important qualification due to teaching in Swedish in the bachelor programme Logistikprogrammet as well as data collection in Swedish.
An associate senior lecturer may apply for promotion to senior lecturer. Within 3.5 years of the date of employment, the holder of the position is expected to have acquired, or to almost have acquired, the pedagogical and research qualifications required for appointment to associate professor (in Swedish: docent). If the associate senior lecturer is assessed as qualified for appointment to associate professor and found otherwise suitable to hold a permanent position, he or she shall be offered a permanent position as senior lecturer.
The appointment process will involve expert assessments, interviews and trial lectures. Salary is determined on an individual basis.
