As an Associate Director - Reagents and Assay Development (RAD) your main responsibilities will be:
Managing a team of cellular scientists delivering sensitive and robust assays across a number of Therapeutic Areas
Developing people across RAD, maximizing talent and creating high performing teams
Maintaining high personal and team external scientific reputation in all aspects of cellular assay technologies
Identification and implementation of new science, technologies and methods within the team.
Managing a team to drive a forward looking science and technology vision and developing proposals and collaborations
Championing the implementation of new methodology and technology related to own area of expertise, including training of staff
Responsible for determining which new methodologies and technologies should be pursued, making decisions about how much resources to invest in them and contributing to this decision making process as a valued expert
Working across regions and skill groups within RAD and with other local and global functions
Advising others including senior management on project related issues such as progress, priorities and future strategies
Maintaining up-to-date knowledge of scientific and technical advances in the field of cellular assay technologies
Building a strong cross functional internal network to influence and engage stakeholders and scientists to enable project progression
Ensuring own work, and the work of the team, is performed in accordance with appropriate Safety, Health & Environment (SHE), quality and compliance standards, e.g. General Laboratory Standard (GLS)
As an Associate Director ? Reagents and Assay Development your skills and qualifications will include:
A PhD or equivalent experience in a relevant scientific discipline with >5 years of experience in leading research teams (academia or industry)
A passion for science, technology and innovation in BioMedical research
Ideally, a candidate will bring expertise in cellular assay development plus knowledge in some of the following areas:
High content imaging, flow cytometry and transcriptomics
Next-generation sequencing (NGS) technologies
Single cell biology (DNA, RNA, protein analysis)
Precise genome editing technologies (ZFN, TALEN or CRISPR)
Stem cell technologies (iPSC, ESC)
3D cell culture technologies/organoids
In-vitro pharmacology, assay design & technology, mechanism of action studies
A strong publication record (>15 peer reviewed publications)
A strong global network to academic and industrial experts in cell & molecular biology
People management, leadership, networking and communication skills
Management of risk using evaluative judgments in complicated or novel situations
An understanding of drug discovery and development
Development of trusted relationships with internal and external scientific colleagues
A proven track record towards customer and delivery focus
Excellent team working and networking skills with experience of interacting effectively across interfaces of discipline, culture, and expertise. Ability to think beyond the boundaries of your own job and discipline, challenge the status quo and actively seek new opportunities.
