Early RIA within AstraZeneca is accountable for the discovery and the development (up to phase III) of new drugs in the RIA arena. Early Clinical Development (ECD) within early RIA consists of experienced medical directors, medical/clinical scientists and clinical program directors, who, in a collaborative manner define clinical development strategy, design innovative clinical trials and translate novel scientific ideas to proof-of-concept in target populations.
As a Clinical Scientists you are a key contributor of the Project Team, working a long side the medical director and clinical team as the expert in medical scientific aspects of the drug and its development during early phase. Your accountabilities are broad, but core accountabilities include driving components of the individual clinical programme strategy, as well as the overall concept and design of clinical trials within Early RIA Clinical.
As the Scientific leader you can expect to get broad international exposure to other functions involved in the drug development process within AZ, gaining an overview of how strategic direction is set and how decisions are made during drug development.
We will rely on you to
* Establish and approve scientific methods for design and implementation of clinical protocols, data collection systems and final reports.
* Guide clinical science aspects of the Clinical Development Plans (CDP) and Clinical Study Protocols in keeping with the approved CDP and ensuring linkage of trial data to target product claims / profile.
* Provide clinical scientific leadership to data and safety reviews (may serve as medical monitor) ensuring consistency throughout the process.
* Follow important developments and trends in the clinical & scientific literature to make valuable contributions and direct strategy across Early RIA Clinical Development.
* Key role in crafting clinical development plans for assigned project.
* Collaborate with R&D and other senior management in assessing requirements for emerging products, including next generation candidates.
* Collaborate with Marketing and Sales to design research to have maximum marketplace credibility and improve marketing efforts.
* Write and check content and quality of product related publications and provide input to development of publication strategy.
* Represent the Project / Product and indication area internally and support externally as a clinical scientific expert.
* Represent AstraZeneca and oversea the planning and management of investigator meetings, advisory boards and other scientific committees as required by the protocol (e.g. independent reviews, DSMB's etc.).
* Co-ordinate Therapeutic Area leadership for regional / global investigator (non-) AZ-sponsored study programs.
* Play a vital role in scientific leadership, i.e. development, understanding, interpretation and implementation of new clinical endpoints, biomarkers and digital / AI strategies, including design, interpretation and reporting.
Essential Requirements
* PhD with industry experience or M.D. degree or equivalent, board certified (or eligible) preferred in allergy or pulmonary medicine
* At least 5 years of broad experience of clinical drug development or medical affairs within a pharmaceutical company or CRO
* Excellent Interpersonal skills and ability to communicate effectively and encouraging in a multidisciplinary and multi cultural research environment.
* Ability to work independently in medical, safety and clinical development tasks with minimal supervision.
* Proven ability to lead, identify problems, generate solutions and execute recovery plan.
