Arbetsbeskrivning
Are you an experienced organic chemist with experience from High-Throughput Experimentation (HTE) and would like to be a leader of this area? Are you excited by challenging, creative chemistry and state-of-the-art equipment? Then you might be the one we are looking for! Join AstraZeneca and apply your expertise in a company that follows the science and turns ideas into life-changing medicines.
AstraZeneca is a global, innovation-driven biopharmaceutical company where we focus on the discovery, development, and delivery of life-saving medicines to our patients while taking sustainability and environmental footprint into consideration. We are proud to be a great place to work and have a culture that inspires innovation and collaboration. We empower our colleagues to express diverse perspectives and at the same time feel valued, respected, and rewarded for their ideas and creativity.
We now have exciting opportunities for Associate Principal Scientist(s) that will be working with us in Gothenburg within the Medicinal Chemistry department of the therapeutic area Cardiovascular, Renal and Metabolism (CVRM) or in the Early Chemical Development department in Pharmaceutical Sciences. In this role you are expected to collaborate with the growing global group of scientists dedicated to synthetic High-Throughput Experimentation (HTE) chemistry.
The use of HTE within synthetic chemistry allows the development of efficient and sustainable processes by enabling innovative routes towards drug discovery compounds and in optimizing synthesis of API materials. The HTE scientists support drug projects in discovery and process development, with key expertise in a range of technologies, such as modern organic chemistry, automation, and information handling (recording of experiments and results).
The successful candidate(s) will be joining a cutting-edge pharmaceutical lab with access to gloveboxes and state-of-the-art HTE equipment. The roles will be based at AstraZeneca's dynamic R&D site in Gothenburg, Sweden and be an integrated part of the Chemistry Centre of Excellence.
What you'll do
The role is lab-based and focused on delivering synthetic chemistry to contribute to AstraZeneca's portfolio of drug projects. You will be a leader within HTE externally and in Gothenburg providing technical support and outline strategic direction in the area. You will provide leadership of the relevant HTE facility, workflows, and equipment and collaboratively help to design, develop, and implement best practice. You will be active in evaluating and implementing cutting edge technologies and workflows via external collaborations and internal science and technology projects.
In a highly cross-disciplinary environment you will seek out the most appropriate methods for carrying out experimental work to a high standard, including utilizing relevant automation. You are expected to be part of external collaborations and publish scientific papers and as part of an open-minded, creative team in HTE you are expected to coach and drive performance and development among your peers. You will contribute with your high ambitions, collaborative mentality, and passion to push the boundaries of science in the area of synthetic chemistry.
Essential for the role
We are looking for a person who has the ability to think innovatively and drive improvement, to support development of co-workers, and address issues when contributing to project strategies.
To be successful in this role you need to be highly self-motivated and capable of analyzing complex data and to decide on focused course of actions. You also need to possess excellent teamwork skills and a demonstrated ability to work in cross functional teams.
It's important to have excellent communication and strategic influencing skills including scientific writing.
*
Experienced Ph.D. in Organic Chemistry with relevant multi-year industrial experience, or equivalent.
*
Recent practical experience in organic synthesis and HTE experimentation in the pharmaceutical industry including working in glovebox, with the ability to plan, prioritize and perform work independently, including synthetic route design and problem-solving.
*
An excellent understanding of synthetic reagents and methodologies, reaction mechanisms and modern analytical techniques.
*
Experience in statistical experimental design and data workflows relevant for HTE.
*
Great awareness of recent literature as well as current developments and trends in organic synthesis.
*
Excellent English both spoken and written.
Desirable for the role
*
Documented experience and skills in chemical process research and development or medicinal chemistry from industry.
*
General knowledge of green chemistry principles
*
Experience of supervising students and/or coaching peers.
So, what's next?
Are you already imagining yourself joining our team? Excellent! We look forward to your application.
