Arbetsbeskrivning
Are you an experienced molecular cell biologist with stem and primary cell expertise? Would you like to combine your scientific skills & curiosity to drive the work of advanced cellular models to build target validation data packages to support therapeutic development? If yes, welcome to join us at AstraZeneca!
The Translational Genomics department at AstraZeneca in Gothenburg, Sweden, are expanding and with this we have an exciting opportunity to join our Applied Stem Cell Sciences team as an Associate Principal Scientist - in vitro Target Validation.
Translational Genomics belongs to the wider Discovery Biology department with a common goal to innovate at the interface of science and technology. This to discover new targets, to create reagents, assays and disease models to discover new medicines, and to develop cell and gene therapies.
Join the team that follows the science unlike anywhere else. This is the place for curious minds. Dig deep into the biology of complex disease and uncover breakthroughs.
What you will do:
In this role you'll work as a specialist in the field of Molecular Cell Biology and be responsible for cellular model generation and validation for a range of target biology research programmes. In the daily work, you will independently devise, initiate or contribute to the implementation of project plans to investigate target biology and generate work-plans to agreed timelines to meet project objectives, including delivery of more than one agreed area of work in parallel. You will design and execute cell-based experiments to validate novel targets using tool compounds and genetic knockdown/gene editing approaches.
As part of the role you will coach and support junior scientists by advising them and providing expert input in interpretation and presentation of complex data - and provide scientific leadership and represent the group at internal as well as external meetings. We encourage you to drive internalization of emerging technologies and actively contribute to publications in peer-reviewed journals. You are driven to come up with novel approaches and excited about publishing your research in high impact journals.
Essential for the role:
To be successful in the role you need to have an open and innovative attitude and the ability to interact and communicate efficiently across interfaces of global and scientific functions and fields. Experience of leading collaborative projects and mentoring more junior scientists is also essential. As well as;
* PhD in Developmental Biology, Cell Biology, Gene Editing or a BSc/MSc degree with significant experience.
* Experience with the culture of multiple mammalian cell types including primary cells and human iPSCs and stable cell line generation.
* Hands-on experience with a variety of molecular biology techniques including CRISPR/CAS9 applications and relevant bioinformatics tools.
* Demonstrable experience with quantitative assay development such as qRT-PCR, ELISA, Western blots and/or cell- based functional/ potency assays.
Desirable in the role:
* Experience with NGS technologies like library prep and amplicon sequencing
* Experience with liquid handling automation technologies and of setting up cell based pharmacological assays.
* Hands on experience with fluorescent and confocal microscopy and automated high-content imaging platforms.
* Strong publication record
Why AstraZeneca?
Here we get to develop and grow - whether that's working at the leading-edge or on varied stages and molecules. Working on things that have never been done before. Be encouraged and supported to think creatively in our dynamic environment. Here we are free from fear of failure, free to ask the right questions and make bold decisions.
