Associate Principal Scientist - Oligonucleotides

One key area in the AstraZeneca portfolio is New Modalities, covering projects not focused on standard small molecules. New Modalities include (but are not limited to) Peptides, Oligonucleotides, Antibody Drug Conjugates, Dendrimer Drug Conjugates, Polymer Drug Conjugates and Vaccine Adjuvants. This is an emerging field that is expected to change and grow in the near and long-term future.

Pharmaceutical Sciences at AstraZeneca deliver the therapies of the future through scientific leadership in drug delivery, design of synthetic routes, and manufacturing of Active Pharmaceutical Ingredients (API) across all the AstraZeneca therapy areas. The Separation Science Laboratory within Pharmaceutical Sciences supports the design and evaluation of new candidate drugs through purification and characterization of small molecules and New Modalities ranging from microgram to kilogram scale.

As part of the Oligonucleotide capability build expansion, we are now looking for an Associate Principal Scientist to join our fantastic team in Gothenburg, Sweden.

Who are you?

We are looking for a candidate with a background in Analytical Chemistry and Purification with demonstrated expertise applied to the purification and characterization of synthetic Oligonucleotides. We are looking for a candidate who is a specialist in this area, ideally with a PhD in a relevant topic. This is a lab-based role where you will, in collaboration with other functions, define a strategy to facilitate the delivery of Oligonucleotides with right quality to our portfolio projects.

Essential for the role:

* PhD in Analytical Chemistry or equivalent experience from industry
* Significant experience in Oligonucleotide analytical measurement and purification science
* Knowledge of the development and manufacturing environment for Oligonucleotides
* Strong collaborative and communication skills with ability to operate across functional boundaries, challenge the status quo and seek opportunities for business improvement
* Strong influencing and prioritisation skills to ensure timely delivery
* Excellent English, both spoken and written

Desirable for the role:

* Experience from working with preparative chromatography, both low and high pressure
* Knowledge in different analytical techniques; e.g. IP-LC, IEX, SEC, LC/MS and high-resolution mass spectrometry
* Hands-on experience from solid phase synthesis of Oligonucleotides
* Interest in automation of processes
