Are you a strong bioscientist able to design and develop experimental strategies? Do you want to make a significant contribution to the progression of drug discovery projects, identification of new targets and publishable scientific insights? If yes, this might be the role for you!
We have a great opportunity for an enthusiastic bioscientist to join us at AstraZeneca as an Associate Principal Scientist or a Senior Scientist, depending on your background. You will be part of one of the Bioscience Departments within Early Respiratory & Immunology (R&I) which focuses on diseases such as COPD and IPF. The role is based at our vibrant R&D site in Gothenburg, Sweden.
The Bioscience COPD/IPF Department consist of 7 teams spread across Sweden, UK and US and our focus is primarily to progress projects within our portfolio, but it also includes work to increase our knowledge of COPD and IPF and to support target identification for new projects.

What you'll do
As a lead biologist for one of our drug projects you will provide clear and pro-active input to project team how to resolve and provide decision making data to secure project deliveries to define milestones and timelines. You will together will a small biology team generate data as well as provide leadership to other members of the team. You will also be part of activities to identify new biological pathways to drive the development of human respiratory diseases.
Your accountabilities will include:
* You will drive discovery research activities to build the scientific knowledge and innovative technologies in respiratory diseases
* You will contribute to writing peer-reviewed publications, abstracts and patents
* You will participate in external collaborations
* You can supervise (not line manage) a Post-doc or external scientist to AZ
* You will generate data in the lab and provide scientific leadership and mentorship to less experienced scientists
Essential for the role
* PhD in a relevant area
* Ability to independently drive and develop a scientific area to benefit the departmental remit
* Thorough understanding and practical experience in designing, performing and evaluating in vitro experiments
* Experience in quantification and profiling of proteins in complex tissue samples
Desirable for the role
* Post-doctoral training
* A strong record of high-quality publications and experience in presenting research to the international scientific community
* Experience in respiratory diseases and pharmaceutical R&D
* Experience in handling and characterizing airway cells in vitro
