Right now, we are looking for a highly engaged and enthusiastic Associate Principal Scientist (Veterinarian) to join the Large Animal Science and Technology Team and complement us in our Animal Sciences and Technologies at AstraZeneca in Gothenburg, Sweden.

The ideal candidate will combine a clinical veterinary background with passion for scientific research in laboratory animal science. We are looking for someone with strong communication and collaboration drive, who can adopt a forward thinking approach to drive our in vivo work to support drug discovery and development projects. The role would be suitable for early career veterinarians combining a laboratory animal science education with a good level of clinical and surgical experience.
What you'll do:
The position will be based within the Animal Sciences and Technologies at AstraZeneca, a department with responsibility over in vivo studies in collaboration with diverse multi-disciplinary teams across the company.
Your main duties will include:
* Participate in the development of novel in vivo models and methodologies for the new drug modalities as a member of multi-disciplinary teams to deliver translationally robust animal models (e.g. new drug modalities including Cell Therapies);
* Participate in surgeries in pigs and rodents as part of the surgery team and contribute in developing new surgical models for medicine development
* Act as study director for in vivo studies with responsibility over the design, planning and execution of studies in the early drug development phase
* Identify and actively promote the development and implementation of animal training, welfare and the 3Rs (refinement, replacement and reduction) in collaboration with other AST scientists
* Drive the publication of posters, presentations and articles in peer-reviewed journals and contributing to the professional training and development of other AstraZeneca in vivo scientists

Essential for the role:
* Degree in Veterinary Medicine with license to practice in Sweden
* Proficiency in veterinary clinical work and surgery
* Strong communication skills with fluency in Swedish and English
Desirable for the role:
* Relevant post-graduate laboratory animal qualification (e.g. Dip ECLAM, ACLAM or CertLAS)
* Expertise in the development, validation and execution of laboratory animal models in an pharmaceutical industry or academic setting
* Knowledge of Swedish and EU regulatory requirements for in vivo research
* Work experience in AAALAC-accredited animal facilities
* Good track record on scientific publications
