The Division of Science, Technology and Society (STS) is looking for an Associate Professor (Docent) in Gender and Technology. We are looking for a future academic leader for this newly created faculty position. To this end, the successful applicant will be given the opportunity to recruit a PhD-student and a post-doctoral researcher. The position includes 40% research time.

Information about the division
This position will be located at the Division of Science, Technology and Society (STS). The STS-division focuses on the societal role of science, technology and environment in the modern and contemporary world. The research and teaching encompass a wide range of perspectives. Among the disciplines and fields represented are environmental and energy humanities, history of science and technology, infrastructure and policy studies, science and technology studies, as well as ethics, gender studies and sociology. Empirically, the research concentrates on energy and environment, transport, traffic and mobility, built environment, digitalisation and AI, and engineering education.

The Associate Professor position in Gender and Technology is partly funded by Chalmers' gender initiative GENIE. The position therefore includes a PhD-student (five-year employment full time) and a post-doctoral research associate (two- year full time).

Major responsibilities
The position as Associate Professor is aimed at research and teaching in Gender and Technology. Teaching duties (50%) include an undergraduate course in Gender and Technology, and may include other courses such as History of Technology, History of Science, Technology and Culture. Duties may include supervision of MSc students. Particularly, they include the coordination and build-up of Chalmers' integration of gender in the curriculum of engineering education.

You are expected to establish yourself as a research leader, to conduct research of high quality within the subject area, and to apply for external funding for your research group. Your role as research leader includes supervision of PhD students and postdoctoral research associates. You are interested in teaching and pedagogical development.

STS is an evolving and aspiring academic environment, and you are expected to contribute to its advancement. Furthermore, you are expected to actively promote the collegial atmosphere at the division and in the department.

Qualifications
You should have a PhD degree in Gender Studies, History of Science and Technology, Science and Technology Studies or cognate disciplines, such as Anthropology, History or Sociology.

Main qualifications are documented teaching and supervision experience of high quality within the subject area, preferably in the context of STEM or engineering-oriented higher education institutions. We expect you to have a documented ability to perform high-quality research within the subject area, experience of research leadership and/or leadership in teaching, such as development and coordination of courses or programmes and a demonstrated ambition and success in attracting external funding. We further value a strong international profile, participation in international research networks within the subject area and experience from postdoctoral positions.

The position of Associate Professor requires scientific expertise that is considerably higher than that required for a doctoral degree as well as demonstrated independenence as a researcher. This includes at least 15 higher education credits in teaching and learning in higher education, as well as a separate course in supervision of research students. External candidates are expected to complete these educational requirements within two years of employment.
