Information about the research and department
The division of High Voltage Engineering, being a part of the Department of Materials and Manufacturing Technology seeks an Associate Professor/Professor in High Voltage Engineering specializing in Electrical Insulation Systems. The position is a permanent one and lies within area that is strategically important for Chalmers future development. It will initially be supported by Chalmers Areas of Advance in Energy and in Materials Science.
Research activities of the division of High Voltage Engineering concentrate today on introducing new material solutions into insulation systems of power network components. Experimental and computational studies of material properties and elucidation of physico-chemical mechanisms operating in polymer based insulation are in focus. Development of new measuring techniques and diagnostic tools accompany these activities.
The research activities of the group are performed in close cooperation with other groups at Chalmers, at other Swedish academic institutions and with industrial partners. The group contributes also to Chalmers' education in electric power engineering on undergraduate, graduate and postgraduate levels through participation in the Master’s Programme on Electric Power Engineering (MPEPO) and the Graduate Research School in High Voltage Engineering. The recently renewed high voltage laboratory facilities effectively support the research and the teaching.
The details of the departmental research activities may be found at http://www.chalmers.se/en/departments/mmt/Pages/default.aspx
Major responsibilities
The sucessful applicant will conduct and develop activities falling into the group's educational portfolio, with focus on graduate and postgraduate studies, as well as carry out high quality research, both independently and in cooperation with other researchers within academic and industrial organizations. The applicant is also expected to effectively attract resources for realizing division's strategic plans.
Duties include performing your own research, teaching on undergraduate, master's and doctoral levels, supervising PhD students and taking part in leadership and administration of both research and other activities. Other important aspects of the position include providing information and communicating about research and current development in the subject area, planning research projects and cooperating within academia and with society at large.
Position summary
Full-time permanent position.
Qualifications
The applicant should possess a PhD degree in Electric Power Engineering or in closely related area within Materials Science/Physics. The applicant is expected to possess research and teching experience on issues relevant to the area of high voltage engineering, especially a deep knowledge of phenomena responsible for functioning and longevity of various dielectric media (gases, liquids and solids) used in insulation systems of power network components. Experiences within on-line monitoring and diagnostics of high voltage network components are also of interest.
A position at Chalmers requires scientific expertise on a very high level. You must demonstrate the ability to undertake an active role in research and as a skilled educator accustomed to teaching on different levels. You demonstrate good cooperation skills and an ability to develop leadership function. Since your own research and that of PhD students is primarily funded by external sources, we assume you can successfully apply for external funding. Experience from research and development work in industry and demonstrated innovation capacity are meritorious.
The position requires sound verbal and written communication skills in Swedish and English. If Swedish is not your native language, Chalmers offers Swedish courses.
