Arbetsbeskrivning
The University of Gothenburg tackles society’s challenges with diverse knowledge. 49 000 students and 6 400 employees make the university a large and inspiring place to work and study. Strong research and attractive study programmes attract scientists and students from around the world. With new knowledge and new perspectives, the University contributes to a better future.
At the Department of Biological and Environmental Sciences (BioEnv), we have teaching and research activities that stretch from the alpine ecosystem, through forests, cultivated land and streams, all the way into the marine environment. In these environments, we study different levels of biological organisation from genes, individuals and populations to communities and ecosystems. We work within ecology, evolution, physiology, systematics and combinations of these fields in order to understand the impact of natural and anthropogenic changes of the environment.
The department is placed at three different localities: in GU:s facilities in Gothenburg Botanical Garden, at Medicinaregatan 18A in Gothenburg and at Kristineberg Marine Research Station. The current position is placed at Kristineberg Marine Research Station.
Project description
The department is responsible for the environmental monitoring of plankton on the Swedish west coast. This means weekly sampling in the water around Kristineberg, all together 60 sampling occasions per year. Recently, another 50 samples per year was added to the program through the national monitoring program of Skagerrak and Kattegat. The analyses are advanced with taxonomic identification of all sorts of plankton, from mikrozooplankton to jellyfish.
One full-time researcher and technical support corresponding to one half-time position are employed to carry out the work. The project is supported by the Swedish Agency for Marine and Water management. Now the project needs to employ an Associate Researcher to carry out these extra analyses.
Job assignments
The main task is microscopic analyses of microzooplankton and zooplankton and photographic analyses of jellyfish. Assistance in sampling from boat and primary production measurements is included in the tasks. Close cooperation with the staff at Kristineberg is vital, therefore it is necessary with a flexible and helpful approach to work.
The employment
This is a fixed-term employment for 7 months, 100 %, starting as soon as possible or upon agreement.
