Welcome to the Institute of Medicine. We conduct interdisciplinary research and education that spans from molecule to society, in close collaboration with healthcare providers in Region Västra Götaland. The Institute of Medicine comprises four departments, including the Department of Internal Medicine and Clinical Nutrition. Here, we conduct research in endocrinology, hematology, gastroenterology, hypertension, pulmonary medicine and allergology, as well as clinical nutrition focusing on body composition and energy metabolism.
The Krefting Research Center (http://krefting.gu.se) (KRC) is funded by the VBG Group's Herman Krefting Foundation for Allergy and Asthma Research. Research at KRC is primarily focused on asthma, respiratory problems and allergies, including basic inflammation research as well as clinical and population studies. The basis for this research is the ongoing West Sweden Asthma Study, one of Europe's largest population-based studies of asthma and lung diseases, which began in 2008 in Region Västra Götaland. KRC hosts more than 20 researchers and research nurses involved in epidemiological and mechanistic studies of inflammation in asthma and allergies.

Subject area description
Asthma and allergy, with a focus on molecular and translational research with a clear goal of achieving results that can lead to better diagnostics and/or therapy for the patient.
Duties
The successful candidate will create a competitive research program, as well as establish and lead a successful research group with a focus on molecular and translational asthma and allergy research. The candidate is expected to actively seek external research funding as well as build and maintain national/international collaborative research networks.
Duties include course planning and teaching at the undergraduate and advanced levels as well as supervising undergraduate and doctoral students. Additional collegial tasks may also be included. Applicants who do not have advanced education in pedagogy must complete this education within two year of starting employment.
Eligibility
The eligibility criteria for employing teaching staff are set out in Chapter 4 Section 4a of the Higher Education Ordinance and in the Appointment Procedure for Teaching Posts at the University of Gothenburg.
Applicants must hold a doctoral degree in a subject the employer deems relevant or have equivalent scientific competence (such as a foreign degree deemed equivalent by the employer). Primary consideration should be given to applicants who have completed their doctoral degree or equivalent expertise within the past five years. Applicants who completed their doctoral degree or equivalent earlier may be considered under special circumstances, such as leave due to illness, parental leave or similar. In such cases, reasons, dates and scope must be clearly specified and documentation provided.
Proficiency in speaking and writing in English is required.
